The firm Withers LLP is an international law firm dedicated to the business, personal and philanthropic interests of successful people, their families, their businesses and their advisers. Our mission is to offer a truly integrated legal service to people with sophisticated global wealth, management and business needs. The firm has been recognised for its great working environment having been consistently listed in The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies To Work For (2012-2016). In 2015 the firm won ‘Best Training for vacation scheme and training contract’ at the AllAboutLaw awards. Furthermore, the firm won LawCareers.Net’s ‘Best Training Principal’ award in 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018. Types of work The wealth of today’s high-net worth individuals has increased in multiples and many are institutions in their own right. Our global expertise ensures our ability to respond to these changing legal needs and offer integrated solutions to the international legal and tax needs of our clients. With 167 partners and over 1,000 people we have unparalleled expertise in commercial and tax law, trusts, estate planning, litigation, IP, charities, employment, reputation management, family law and other legal issues facing high-net worth individuals. Withers’ reputation in commercial law along with its status as the largest private client team in Europe sets it apart from other City firms. Work is often international due to the complexity of our client base which includes some of the wealthiest global citizens. We have acted for 51% of the UK Sunday Times ‘Rich List’ and a significant number from the US ‘ Forbes ’ and Asian ‘ Hurun ’ rich lists. Trainees who speak a relevant language may have the opportunity to complete a seat in one of our offices abroad. Who should apply Each year we look for a diverse mix of trainees who are excited by the prospect of working with leaders in their field (who are often in the public eye as spokespersons for the profession). Trainees should have a high degree of determination, great attention to detail and be able to demonstrate business acumen and entrepreneurial flair. Training programme Trainees spend six months in four different departments. Teams are small (files are typically handled by one senior fee earner and a trainee) so the client will know your name. Buddy and mentor systems as well as on the job training ensure trainees are fully supported from the outset. When and how to apply Apply online by 31 July 2020 to begin training in September 2021. Interviews usually take place between May and August. Work placements We run two-week placements at Easter and over the summer in London. Apply online by 31 January 2020 for places in 2020. Sponsorship Fees plus £5,000 maintenance for both the GDL and LPC are paid.
