NON-SURGICAL
Hyperpigmentation is caused by an overproduction of melanocytes, which are triggered by sun exposure, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH or trauma to the skin) and hormonal imbalances (estrogen/progesterone) in the body. This article will focus on two specific reasons for hyperpigmentation and how the Sciton Halo and MOXI treatments can help to address these concerns.
MOXI is a fractionated 1927 laser filtered to protect the epidermis and your skin's beautiful color while causing small micro-channels in the skin. Your brain sees this as damage sending a signal to stimulate collagen. This collagen production is important for many reasons. First, did you know that collagen is the most abundant protein in your body and the largest connective tissue in your body? This connective tissue keeps your skin better hydrated and lowers inflammation. Without this important hydration, your body cannot control cortisol levels effectively, which in some patients causes a higher risk of melasma from hormonal imbalances. There is a ripple effect when we improve collagen production, we improve our connective tissue, increasing hydration in the skin, improving hyaluronic acid levels, causing a decrease in fine lines, and improving the skin's texture and tone. Most patients will need 3-5 treatments to see optimal improvements. This treatment will need to be paired with appropriate skin care to see optimal results. The MOXI Laser treatment can be combined with BBL ® Hero TM for ultimate improvement with hyperpigmentation/ melasma concerns, for most skin types. SCITON HALO laser is a special type of fractional hybrid laser that combines ablative (2940nm fractional Erbium laser) and non- ablative resurfacing (1470 diode laser), in one treatment. Allowing improvement in more significant signs of sun damage, aging, and redness. In return, this treatment does require, in most cases, more downtime and more time between treatments. Patients generally need 2-3 treatments, spaced 8 weeks apart. The Halo treatment does require 3-5 days of downtime, with the skin feeling more normal in about a week.
Just like the MOXI treatment, micro-channels are made in the skin sending a signal to stimulate collagen helping to improve the skin’s function, texture, tone, and fine lines while stripping away the outermost layer of skin, removing dull damaged skin, helping to stimulate collagen even greater, and causing your skin to restructure and rebuild itself from the inside out. Patients can also combine BBL Hero with their Halo treatment for a more significant change in skin texture and tone. Before beginning any of these amazing treatments, you will need to schedule a consultation with a laser specialist. Your specialist will guide you in choosing the best treatments to address your concerns while being sure your current at-home skin care regimen is setting you up for success. This consultation will include planning for success and maintenance. At Calospa we want you to feel confident that you are always putting your best face forward.
