MERSEY AND WEST LANCASHIRE TEACHING HOSPITALS NHS TRUST Ali Wilson, Dispensing Manager, says, “On the 1 July 2023 Southport & Ormskirk NHS Trust merged with St. Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (MWL) serves a population of over 600,000 with a combined workforce of around 9,000 dedicated and skilled staff. Our staff deliver care from a range of locations including hospitals, community locations and in patient’s own homes. We provide emergency and maternity services at Whiston, Southport and Ormskirk hospitals, as well as a range of medical and surgical specialties across all our hospitals, including St Helens and Newton. We also provide the Mersey Regional Burns and Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the spinal injuries unit at Southport District General Hospital, serving more than four million people across the whole of Merseyside and West Lancashire, Cheshire, the Isle of Man and North Wales. As a Trust we have worked with Preston College for many years, we are so fortunate to have an amazing working relationship with all the team at the College. Currently we have NVQ2 / NVQ3 and ACT students studying at Preston. All our NVQ A1 Assessors and ACT Mentor’s have been trained at Preston College. We work so closely with Preston College’s tutors; we are in regular contact and support our students throughout each course. No matter what query we may have the tutors are always there for us.”
