A PIECE OF HISTORY WESTMORELAND CLUB In 2018, The Westmoreland Club Charitable Foundation dedicated The Edward Welles, Jr. Library & Heritage Room at The Westmoreland Club. Members of the Board of Directors of the Foundation and the President and members of the Board of Governors of The Club welcomed representatives of the Welles family to the event. The ribbon was cut by Welles Homer and Claire Homer. Through the efforts of the Historical & Library Committee, chaired by Stephen B. Killian and co- chaired Daniel W. Volpetti, a significant collection of nineteenth-century volumes of literature and history was obtained for the Foundation from the estate of Virginia C. Welles to create a library to be dedicated to her husband, Edward Welles Jr. In addition, a collection of Welles family portraits was purchased from the estate and donated to the Foundation to augment the library collection.
To enhance the experience of members of The Westmoreland Club it dedicated a room for the Foundation to house the library and portrait collection. Displayed in bookcases designed by interior decorator, Janet E. Flack, the library collection and portraits provide a background for members to enjoy a relaxing lounge area. Other features of the Library & Heritage Room include plaques honoring members of The Westmoreland Club who served their country in World War I and World War II and the Veterans Honor Roll, dedicated in memory of Bruce E. Gover, Sr., as well as memorabilia related to the history of the Club.
