We process as much waste as possible using our own fully licensed Waste Recycling Centre. This facility allows us to separate recyclables and process in the most efficient way. The recycling centre gives our customers the confidence that even if the waste is collected mixed there is a process in place to ensure that all materials collected will be assessed for recycling prior to final disposal. We provide services for the collection and reprocessing/recycling of glass , cardboard , hardcore , soil , steel , aluminium , copper , plasterboard , UPVC a nd various hazardous waste materials like televisions , computer monitors , fluorescent tubes and fridges . Recycling is very much a developing market and is dependant on the cost of processes to separate and clean recyclables, the cost of actually recycling the material and the demands of the end user for that product. Like any market it is about supply and

demand and as demand grows The Cox Group is at the forefront leading the way by investing in automated systems to help separate materials and specialised collection vehicles to collect segregated materials from site. Our sister company The Recycling Partnership provide services to collect recyclables from local businesses including paper, cardboard, plastics, cans, food tins, glass bottles and jars. Commercial Waste Recycling – 01342 715456

We offer service coverage across the South East of England and operate a fleet of multi collection vehicles along with our own recycling centre. Our focus is the same as when the business first began, to help businesses reduce the amount of waste that they produce and recycle more.

Dry Mixed Recycling We collect and recycle various waste streams in one bin which include

paper/cardboard, plastic bottles and tins/cans. DRY MIXED RECYCLING

At the Recycling Partnership we are always looking for a new and creative way to increase the levels of recycling for the business community. Our Dry Mixed Recycling scheme (DMR) has been designed to meet the ever increasing need of our customers to reduce costs and improve on recycling achievements of the past. In addition the focus of this scheme is ease of use. Simply place all Drinks Cans, Food Tins, Plastic Bottles, Paper and Cardboard into the same container provided by us and we will collect and recycle it all. The price for this service is less than the cost of just throwing the rubbish away in the normal bin so it really is a win win, less cost and less waste!

General Mixed Waste Once all of the recyclable materials are recovered or removed from the waste stream there will be a residual waste that is more difficult to process. Once all of the recyclable materials are removed from the waste stream there will be a residual waste that is more difficult to process. We will provide various sizes of container for you to store the General Waste and collect it in our specialist vehicles. All General Waste is transported to a Transfer Facility for inspection and all residual waste is used to produce renewable energy through a number of processes including direct Energy Recovery (ER) and use as Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF).

These options provide our customers with a solution that removes the dependency of landfill and offers a sustainable alternative to the problem of waste disposal.

Glass Recycling Our service extends to the collection and recycling of glass bottles and jars from any business including Pubs, Nightclubs, Restaurants, Schools and other organisations. If you are involved in the Pub or Restaurant trade you will probably appreciate the huge volume of glass bottles that are disposed of every day. The Recycling Partnership can help reduce costs by introducing a glass recycling option. We will supply the bin and arrange a regular collection based on the volumes of glass that you produce.

Office Recycling We provide a bespoke solution for all your office waste recycling needs. Internal containers can be provided with colour coding and labelling. Our office recycling scheme is simple and effective, the results can be seen as soon as the system is introduced. We will provide a free on site audit to establish the best solution based on your requirements. Service provision can include the supply of internal containers that can be strategically placed to encourage the optimum usage. Waste streams can be mixed in one container reducing the need for lots of different bins and offering an easy solution to each individual user. This service can increase your recycling rates by more than 50% and has been proven to reduce costs significantly.

CONFIDENTIAL SECURE SHREDDING

If you are concerned about having to destroy confidential waste and having it taken off site, and your volumes are too great to shred by yourself, we have a solution to suit you. Our on site shredding process, from the collection of confidential material to the on site shredding process in our trucks, is designed to guarantee absolute security of your paper waste data. We are fully compliant to the new European Information Destruction Standards – BS EN15713: 2009. All of our paper waste destruction personnel are fully uniformed, wear ID, have 10 year background checks and are vetted to BS7858 standard. They are intensively trained to comply with our strict security procedures to ensure that your sensitive and confidential paper waste materials are handled in a manner that you would expect from a first class waste management service provider. Once shredded, all paper is baled and recycled providing a secure and environmentally efficient solution for all of you confidential waste needs. FOOD RECYCLING Our food waste collection service is available to all businesses and organisations. The service includes the provision of a bin and a regular collection. Caddies can also be provided for the safe storage of food waste in kitchen areas as a way to transfer the material to the outside container. The food is transported in one of our specialist vehicles to various Anaerobic Digestion (AD) plants where it is processed to produce a Biogas and Bio fertiliser. Both products have a use; Biogas helps to produce renewable energy to power our homes and businesses. Bio fertiliser is an essential ingredient in farming and is spread on our fields to help crops grow.

By separating and recycling our food waste we can all help to reduce the use of raw materials and improve the way that this type of waste is disposed of. Its easy to arrange and will help to improve your organisations environmental profile. WEEE WASTE

We are fully licensed to handle both Hazardous and non Hazardous electrical waste in accordance with the WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Regulations. Our services include collection of computer monitors, fridges, freezers, water coolers, televisions, cookers, microwaves, PC towers, keyboards, printers, fax machines, LCD screens, washing machines, dishwashers, tumble dryers and many other electrical items. All waste remains the responsibility of the respective site until collected. GET THE MOST FROM YOUR SERVICE • Ensure your containers or bags are out and available in the designated area from the evening before a collection is due, where possible. • Access to the food waste must be clear and free of obstacles. • DO NOT OVERFILL BINS – Doing so can result in crews being unable to move or collect your container safely until the excess is removed. We recommend that you do not fill containers over ¾ full and ensure the lid can be fully closed during transport. *• Used Cooking Oil – This cannot be disposed of in our services and needs to be collected separately by a specialist recycler. Excessive oil in our containers will result in them being refused service until removed. **• Liquid Waste – Our bins are not designed for collection of large quantities of liquid waste and should not be used for this purpose. If your business is producing predominately liquid waste, please contact us to discuss alternative disposal options.

Press Release

The Recycling Partnership Go Electric in Brighton

Local Commercial Services Operator Invests in First Fully Electric Re Purposed Refuse Collection Vehicle For Commercial Use in Brighton & Hove

Brighton based waste services business The Recycling Partnership have taken delivery of their first fully electric refuse collection vehicle. This is the first fully electric conversion to be operated commercially in the UK. The vehicle has been converted to Electric to help steer the industry down a reduce, reuse and recycle route proving that this option provides a service delivery as good as a brand new diesel vehicle. As the volume of diesel fuelled vehicles continue to increase on our roads, businesses need to consider alternatives that protect our environment. By investing in the latest and cleanest technology available this local contractor is aiming to improve vehicle efficiency and air quality in our region. The e-One has a 200kwh battery pack and boasts a range of up to 200kms per full charge, which enables us to operate our normal daily collection round using only electric thus reducing our carbon footprint to Zero emissions and saving on operating costs. As the business grows we have the option to increase the battery capacity on other vehicles to 280kwh to accommodate larger rounds operating in a larger radius. Our drivers and workshop have undergone extensive training on both operational and mechanical aspects of the vehicle bringing new skills on electric vehicles to the region. With the order book for e-One filling fast The Recycling Partnership wanted to show their ongoing commitment to reducing their carbon footprint by securing the very first available unit helping their local environment with both emission and noise pollution reduction and encourage the industry to follow suit.

At Cox Management Services Limited, The Recycling Partnership Limited and Cox Skips Limited, we pride ourselves on waste segregation and where possible this starts at the customers’ premises.

We can provide eurobins for the following waste streams:

Dry Mixed Recycling General Mixed Waste Glass Recycling Food Waste What happens to the main recyclable and reusable materials

Metal / Cans

Cans are separated for recycling.

Cardboard

Cardboard is baled into mill size bales before being sent to one of a number of reprocessing mills in the UK.

Paper

There are differing grades of paper and each grade is valued differently and has different uses. High grade can be recycled into office paper. Low grade may be recycled into paper towels or tissue paper.

Plastic

The market for low grade plastic (for example: plastic bottles, milk containers, yoghurt pots) is currently not sustainable and is currently sent for energy recovery, but its changing. With the introduction of the new Plastic Packaging tax applicable in the UK, the expected demand for recycled material is anticipated to increase the collection and recycling of waste plastic.

Cox Management Services Ltd

Hard plastics (for example: UPVC window frames) are separated and sent for recycling.

Wood

Wood is separated and sent for recycling.

Plasterboard

Plasterboard is separated and sent for recycling.

Recycling is a developing market and is dependent on the cost of processed to separate and clean recyclables, along with the cost of actually recycling the material and the demands of the end user for that product. Like any market, it is about supply and demand. We process as much waste as possible using our own Waste Transfer and Recycling Centre. Our facility allows us to separate recyclables and process in the most efficient way. With a current total of 41 commodities being separated for reprocessing or recycling we are at the forefront of segregating materials.

Roadmap to Net Zero Emissions: Cox Group Pathway to Achieving Net Zero by 2050

As the world grapples with the urgent need to combat climate change, industries across the board are re- evaluating their environmental impact and striving to achieve net-zero emissions by the target date of 2050. Among these sectors, the waste management industry plays a critical role in mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning towards a sustainable future. At C ox Group we are and continue to be committed to reducing our impact on the environment and currently divert over 98% of collected waste from landfill. We have a number of programmes and initiatives in place to help reduce our environmental impact and in turn that of our clients. This report presents a comprehensive roadmap for C ox Group, outlining strategies and milestones to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. By implementing key initiatives such as the ‘Collection Route Optimization’ strategy, setting ambitious emission reduction targets and transitioning to non-fossil-fuel vehicles C ox Group can become a leader in sustainability and contribute significantly to global climate goals.

Implementing the ‘Collection Route Optimization’ Strategy

To increase operational efficiency and reduce emissions, we will implement the ‘Collection Route Optimization’ strategy. This strategy, utilizing data analytics, advanced routing algorithms, and real-time monitoring aims to optimize waste collection routes to minimise the time spent on the road. By 2030, the company targets a 20% increase in efficiency, leading to reduced fuel consumption, minimized vehicle mileage, and lower greenhouse gas emissions associated with collection operations.

Setting Ambitious Emission Reduction Targets

We are committed to ambitious emission reduction targets. The company aims to cut emissions by 50% by 2030, aligning with global decarbonization efforts. These targets will serve as a benchmark for progress and accountability, driving the company’s commitment towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Procuring 100% Renewable Electricity

As part of its sustainability strategy, we will transition to 100% renewable electricity procurement by 2050. The company will invest in on-site renewable energy generation, such as solar panels and enter into power purchase agreements with renewable energy providers. This transition will reduce reliance on fossil fuel-based grid electricity and contribute to a cleaner energy mix.

2024 Update

As part of our ongoing commitment to transition to 100% renewable energy across all our sites we are actively investigating the installation of Solar Panels at our Transfer Station at Slyfield Industrial Estate. We are currently engaged with a number of specialist suppliers to find the best solution for our business. The benefits of solar panels go beyond practicality and money savings for C ox – by investing in solar we clearly demonstrating our commitment to lowering our business’ overall carbon footprint.

Transitioning to Non-Fossil-Fuel Vehicles

We recognize the importance of transitioning to non-fossil-fuel vehicles. By 2040, the company will replace its vehicle fleet with electric, hybrid, or hydrogen-powered vehicles. This transition will involve collaborating with vehicle manufacturers, investing in charging infrastructure, and incentivizing employees to adopt cleaner transportation options. The switch to non-fossil-fuel vehicles will significantly reduce emissions associated with waste collection and transportation operations.

Replacing All Site Fuels with Net Zero Emission Alternatives To achieve net-zero emissions, C ox Group will replace all site fuels with net-zero emission alternatives by 2040. The company will adopt alternative energy sources such as biogas or renewable natural gas to replace traditional fuels used in landfill gas capture, incineration, or other on-site processes. This transition will contribute to the overall carbon neutrality of C ox Group’s operations. Our Current Operations – What are we doing today? From our One Bin Service to our Zero to Landfill commitment we have been paving the way for a number of years helping our customers to be more sustainable and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill. Today, we already have a number of initiatives and schemes in place that mean we are on track to reduce our CO2 emissions by 2050.

Our Unique ‘One Bin Service’

Our ‘One Bin’ Service allows customers to place everything in one bin without the hassle of sorting and recycling – it’s that simple. Allowing customers to place everything in one bin rather than sorting their waste into different waste streams simplifies the process and encourages maximum materials recovery. Other benefits include:

- -

Less collections resulting in reduced carbon footprint

Reduces overall cost to the customer

Materials collected through are One Bin service are processed at our Materials Recovery Facility in Guildford where it is sorted and separated by our team. Non-recyclable waste is then used to generate Green Energy while recyclables are recovered and processed on for recycling. We do not send any materials to landfill – this is our Zero to Landfill commitment.

Typically, through our One Bin service 52% of all waste recovered is reused or recycled and 48% is used to produce a Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) generating Green Electricity.

Multi-Compartmental Collection Vehicles

In addition to our One Bin Service, we also operate a fleet of multi-compartmental collection vehicles that allow us to collect more than one waste stream at a time. This helps us to reduce the number of vehicles on the road at any one time whilst optimising our collection route and maximising materials recovered from each site visited.

Large-Scale Skips

C ox Group is one of the few companies operating within the Surrey and Hampshire area that offers 26 tonne skip trucks – the largest skips available domestically and commercially. This means we can collect 10-Yard skips containing heavy soil effortlessly. Through offering large-scale collections to homeowners and business alike we are able to cut our route operations by 33% - reducing our time on the roads and impact on the environment.

Electric Waste Collection Trucks

We have ambitious plans to electrify our fleet of vehicles by 2050. We recognise that electric waste collection has an essential role to play in helping the UK as a whole reach its 2050 net zero emissions targets.

The benefits of electric vehicles include:

- -

Help to reduce air pollution and cut greenhouse gases

Much quieter! Helping to reduce noise pollution in urban environments

We are in the process of trialling several electric waste collection vehicles to ensure optimal efficiency in battery life to complete a full shift on one charge. This will ensure our operating routes are maximised without a break in service.

2024 Update

In 2023 we ran a pilot scheme to trial both an electric compaction vehicle and electric skip loader, allowing us to gain insight into how they would perform on a day-to-day basis and meet the demands of our operating schedule. We focused on our Waste Management Services as a starting point for trialling electric vehicles as the routes are often shorter and concentrated within urban areas. This allowed us to test battery reliability and how the vehicles responded on a typical route map. The Skip Loader performed well to the daily demands of our Guildford Depot with excellent battery reliability and quick charge turnaround times, clearly demonstrating a significant reduction in carbon emissions, impact on the environment and reduced running costs. During 2024 we will be continuing to explore new technologies as they hit the market.

By adding these types of vehicles to our fleet moving forward it demonstrates our strong commitment to achieving our goal of net-zero by 2050.

Current Partnerships

A Look into Our Current Partnerships and Current Commitments to achieving Net Zero.

Andusia

As part of our commitment to a Net Zero operation we work in partnership with Andusia, the largest independent exporter of RDF (Refused Derived Fuel) from UK producers (independent management-owned waste businesses). Our long-standing relationship with Andusia means we export approximately 22,500 tonnes per annum of RDF to several Energy from Waste plants across Northern Europe. The waste is recovered and used to create energy and electricity, avoiding UK landfill.

Conclusion

We Are Committed to Leading the Way in Sustainability and Environmental Stewardship. By implementing the ‘Collection Route Optimization’ strategy, setting ambitious emission reduction targets, procuring 100% renewable electricity, transitioning to non-fossil-fuel vehicles, and replacing all site fuels with net-zero emission alternatives, the company can achieve its goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.

This journey requires a collaborative effort, involving Cox Group’s management, employees, suppliers, and stakeholders.

By adopting these strategies (and the other environmental strategies we already implement), C ox Group can demonstrate industry leadership while contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for everyone.
