Dave Osburn was born on September 25th, 1948 right here in Santa Maria, California. Little did anyone know during his Santa Maria High School years while he was excelling in football and track that later, in his short life, he would go on to touch so many people in so many ways. It has been said many times that Dave never met anyone that did not turn out to be a close and treasured friend. While Dave always had
a western streak it was not till he was 19 that he first climbed on the back of a bull. The year was 1967 and Dave was hooked. On riding bulls that is. From 1967 until he hung up his rope in 1982 he rode at just about every rodeo in the west. He was always happy, smiling and helping the young guys coming up. 15 years is a lifetime in Bull Riding but Dave stayed with it. A couple of things started to get Dave's mind focusing in a different direction. In 1979 Dave married Bobbie Jo and together they had a son named Dallas. Talk about a proud Papa. As soon as Dallas was old enough to swing a rope, they were on the trail and together they team roped all over the west.
Dave's Wife, Son, Daughter - in - law and two grandkids now reside in montana where they are enjoying mountains, rivers and living the western way of life.
No matter what rodeo or what end of the arena Dave was entered in you could count on him volunteering to help out wherever needed. Dave was just that kind of a guy. This was why he was also such a treasured Elk. Dave joined the Elks Lodge 1538 in 1976 and right from the start volunteered for just about anything his time would allow him to. When the construction on the new rodeo grounds started his expertise as a heavy equipment operator lead to countless hours of volunteer service to help shape the grounds into what you see today.
We will forever miss our usmiling Bull Rider", Dave Osburn.
