Mission Statement: Ann & Nate Levine Academy is an inclusive, dynamic Jewish day school which fosters leadership, creativity, critical thinking, and Jewish values while empowering its students with integrity, self-confidence, and intellectual curiosity.

April 11, 2021

Dear Levine Families and Dallas Jewish Community,

Greetings to all and thank you for celebrating with us!

We are so excited to bring to you this year’s very special Gala—honoring two outstanding educational leaders who have had a lasting impact on Solomon Schechter Academy of Dallas and Ann & Nate Levine Academy: Emily Kern and Lois Davidson.

This year we are bringing you our Annual Gala in a unique and creative way, allowing us to welcome a larger Levine Community to celebrate and support our Mission.

We have come a long way as a school during this pandemic, because of the tireless efforts of our teachers and administrators. All year we have delivered educational excellence and Jewish commitment—with continuity both in-person and virtual instruction. Sadly the last time we were able to gather as a community was last year at our Annual Gala at Congregation Shearith Israel. Since that Gala in March of 2020, our school has been forging ahead, without looking back, thanks to your ongoing and substantial support. At Ann & Nate Levine Academy, we have many reasons to shout our successes throughout the greater Jewish community of Dallas. We continue to deliver best-in-class academic curricula; inspiring Jewish programming; new emphasis on STEM and robotics; growing service and leadership learning; an abundance of creativity; extra-curricular and summertime programs that hone talents and strengthen confidence. All of which has been further confirmed with the outstanding high school placements of our current 8 th grade class. Looking ahead, Levine has entered the final stages of the accreditation process; we foresee completing this process in a year from now, which will elevate Levine’s place among the best private schools as we anticipate official inclusion within the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest. Here’s a big shout-out to some awesome parents and staff who helped make this Gala possible: Julie Wilkofsky, Development Chair; Mahra Pailet, Gala Chair; Susan & Steven Wilkofsky, Honorary Chairs; Linda Garner, Sponsorship Chair; Shana Staub, Auction Chair; Julia Gittlitz & Tara Karp, Tribute Journal Chairs. None of this would be possible without the dedication of our Director of Development, Yael Twito, and Development Assistant, Kelly Swofford, for their ongoing leadership and management of the overall Gala event and experience. Deserving a huge show of appreciation: we thank our faculty, our administrative team, and our Board of Trustees. This year, more than ever, you have worked so hard to assure that success shines upon all facets of the experience at Ann & Nate Levine Academy for all our students. Finally, we thank all of you, our parents and community friends—for participating in this important financial event for our school. We appreciate your commitment to Levine. Enjoy the virtual experience and have fun. Bid on the amazing auction items and don’t miss the opportunity to participate in the paddle call--all with Levine Academy on your mind!

Sincerely,

Tom Elieff, Head of School Sandy Haymann Marks, President of the Board of Trustees

With heartfelt admiration, we are pleased to announce that Lois Davidson and Emily Kern are this year’s honorees. These two incredible women have made a lasting impression on our school. They are both deeply committed to its mission, and their contributions to our community paved the way in

which teaching and learning continues at Levine today.

Lois served 35 years as Director of our Preschool. Hundreds of children and parents who walked

the halls throughout the years still remember her smile and her hugs. Throughout her tenure at Levine, her dedication and commitment to her students and her teachers never wavered. Her legacy continues as her daughter, Stephanie Taylor, serves as our Early Childhood Director, moving the program forward and keeping our students safe and happy during this challenging time. Emily began her involvement as a parent, sending her two daughters to the Preschool way back when. As her love for the school grew, she volunteered to take on the great responsibility of Chairing the Board of Trustees. Emily’s relationship with Levine has come full-circle as she now takes on the role of chairing the Grandparent Committee, participating as a member of the Board, and kvelling over her grandchildren who are now students at Levine! Their relationship began and flourished with children as the centerpiece. They met in the summer of 1973 when Lois was the director of the preschool day camp and Emily was the director of the older children’s day camp. They shared an office, not knowing then that they would be sharing lives and families for over the next 40 years. After the summer, Lois began teaching at Solomon Schechter, now Levine Academy. In 1978, she became Director of the preschool. During those years, Emily married and had her first child. Lois encouraged her to come visit the preschool and shortly after, Emily enrolled her child in the 2’s at Solomon Schechter. Lois encouraged Emily to volunteer at the school and she did and became more involved each year. She served on committees, the board, and eventually as board chairman (chairwoman). They created their very own family unit and became backyard neighbors. They celebrated Shabbat and all the other Jewish and secular holidays together. Their children would freely come and go in between their homes. They have always had a love, respect and understanding of childhood. Lois continued as Director for 35 years and Emily has a masters in social work and counsels children, adolescents and adults. Most importantly, they both have a strong commitment to children and to the importance of Jewish education. L’dor Va’dor

A special hug of love and gratitude to Emily and Lois for the years of support when our children were just starting on their paths of Jewish learning and friendships. We always knew if there was an issue they were there with an open door and ear. We never realized the impact they made until we looked back to reflect. May their lives be filled with good health, happiness and joy just like they gave us while helping to shape our kids. We will be forever grateful.
