Describe any challenges you overcame in the process? Our previous Queen’s Award entry had not been successful. The biggest challenge was working out why that was and how we could overcome it. Now you’ve won an award, what advice would you give to others thinking of applying? Ensure you allow plenty of time for each question, look at each question and answer in full detail. Research previous winners in a similar category.
How will you use your award to promote your business going forward? We have ensured that we have added the official logo to all of our correspondence, social media, and company websites. There were press releases with local newspapers and meat traders’ journals. We purchased official copies of the The Queens Awards for Enterprise Magazine and sent to key customers both in the UK and internationally. New uniforms were produced for team members with the official logo on the sleeve as well as official pins distributed for those that wear suits and dresses.
Would you consider applying again in future?
We shall be reapplying next year in the International Trade category. We are also going to try again for sustainable development. What do you consider to be the benefits of being a Queen’s Award holder? Our Managing Director Martin Blackwell believes this will be massively positive for Direct Meats. “The award gives credibility to the business as a brand and this will help build our profile on a global stage”, he said. “We hope this will open more doors in existing as well as new markets. It’s a recognised standard on a global scale and when approaching new customers we can prove an immediate high-standard, high-quality product and service recognised at a top level.” n
