Launch of the SmartMover In 2004, MasterMover launched the SmartMover. This machine remains a customer favourite to this day and can be found offering safety and efficiency benefits worldwide, from hospitals and laboratories to factories, warehouses and shops. Andy Owen became Managing Director in 2007 and a Partner in 2009. Confident that electric tug solutions were exportable and provided benefits to a diverse range of sectors, MasterMover entered a new period of growth. From 2007 onwards, and with a clear marketing strategy in place, the business became increasingly proactive in overseas markets. Beginning with a phased roll out to Europe, and in response to rising demand, the company went from strength to strength. Meanwhile, MasterMover’s reputation for innovation, engineering excellence and truly customer-focused solutions also grew. Rising to the challenge In 2016, James Jones, Andrew’s son, joined the business as a Partner. James now leads on bespoke project managed solutions designed to solve the often complex challenges presented by customers’ specific material handling needs. From the outset, MasterMover has maintained a 100% in-house design and development team, using exceptional talent to create forward-thinking, high performance solutions. Across all business functions, there is continued investment in the very best people with training, support and career development opportunities. The UK continues to be the springboard for MasterMover’s export success. The company plans to develop its manufacturing operations at home alongside driving new product innovation, allowing it to build on its worldwide presence. M-Mover Holdings is proud to announce that it has received The Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade 2021 in recognition of its outstanding continuous growth in overseas sales over the past six years. Trading as MasterMover, the company is a global leader in the design and manufacture of compact, powerful, battery-operated tugs that allow customers to safely move wheeled loads ranging in weight from 50kg to more than 100,000kg. MasterMover electric tugs improve the safety and efficiency of operations in a variety of sectors, including manufacturing, pharmaceutical, healthcare, food production, retail and logistics. Based in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, the business also has subsidiaries in North America, France and Germany alongside a management team and sales partner network that extends across the globe. ‘A wonderful accolade’ On winning the award, MasterMover’s Andy Owen said: “Receiving the Queen’s Award is a recognition of the hard work and dedication of
everybody in the company and the journey so far that we’ve been on together. This is a wonderful accolade we can all be proud of as we look forward to an exciting future.” The MasterMover brand has its origins in 1997, when the late founder Andrew Jones started out with just one machine initially developed for moving caravans and small goods. Andrew’s background was in retail and the textile industry, but he recognised the wider potential for providing a safer and more efficient way to move wheeled loads. In the late 1990s, just as supermarkets were investing in large, out-of-town stores, it became apparent that moving roll cages over long distances from storage to shelf would prove difficult. Instead, supermarket chains looking to achieve safe and efficient replenishment wanted a solution that could move multiple roll cages at a time. An electric tug fromMasterMover was the answer. National contracts with major supermarket chains followed and, with an expanding product range, different sectors across industry also began to take an interest.
