Georgia Color Artists Present: A Tour of Savannah

Experience the timeless beauty of art inspired by nature. EN PLEIN AIR: PAINTING IN THE OPEN AIR

WHAT IS EN PLEIN AIR? Derived from the French expression meaning “In the open air,” en plein air painting is a practice of creating art outdoors, capturing landscapes and scenes in their natural light and essence. This approach celebrates the interplay of light, color, and atmosphere, as artists immerse themselves in the environment to bring their subjects to life. THE PLEIN AIR EXPERIENCE Creating art en plein air requires a blend of technical skill and artistic sensitivity. Artists must adapt to changing light, weather, and surroundings, balancing spontaneity with intention. This dynamic process imbues each piece with a sense of immediacy and authenticity, reflecting the artist’s direct connection to the scene. THE 6TH ANNUAL GEORGIA COLOR PLEIN AIR | LEARN MORE Held in Savannah in October 2024, this event featured 30 Georgia-based artists from across the state. Over five days, artists captured moments in time on the streets of the historic district, on the marshes surrounding Wilmington and Tybee Islands, in the shade of live oaks draped in Spanish moss, the splash of the iconic fountain in Forsyth Park, and so much more. In this exhibit, you will experience a slice of life in the state’s most historic city. (The 7th Annual Georgia Color Plein Air returns to Savannah, October 14-19, 2025)

Olmsted Plein Air Invitational | April 19-27,2025

A Selection Committee researches and invites up to 30 artists from across the country—ranging from well-established figures to emerging talents—to participate in a 9-day painting frenzy and competition. During this time, artists capture scenes from Atlanta and across Georgia. At the end of their visit, each artist selects two works to enter into competition.
