EXEMPLARY PRACTICE Wellstar nurses present at national program WELLSTAR WINDY HILL The international conference of nursing leaders, Sigma, invited two Wellstar nurses to speak
about their experience transforming healthcare. In November 2023, PACU Nurse Darleen Rideau, BSN, RN, CAPA and Director of Nursing Erin Glover, DNP, MHA, RN, NE-BC, NPD-BC, presented at the 47th Sigma Biennial Convention in San Antonio, Texas, to discuss their involvement in the national Nurse Empowerment Program, sponsored by the Johnson & Johnson Foundation. Wellstar had the largest representation in the program, with 350 participants. During the two-month program, Darleen and other clinical nurses enjoyed access to Sigma courses in leadership, communication, conflict management, healthy work environment, diversity and other areas.
Among the Wellstar participants, 71% said the program boosted their leadership skills and 93% experienced job advancement since completing it. Darleen was able to share her personal experience as a program participant with international colleagues and identified specific clinical benefits to her participation. She said, “The most significant outcome of 2023 that I can directly attribute to my completion of the Nurse Empowerment Program was the correction of the narcotic medication safety issue occurring in Epic, affecting the pediatric patient population.” n
