2024 Wellstar Nursing Report

SHARED LEADERSHIP It was a productive year for Kennestone EBP WELLSTAR KENNESTONE REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER Creativity was the theme of a nurse-led practice showcase and other council-led activities at Wellstar’s flagship hospital.

Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center’s Creative Innovations Council is proudly living up to its name. The hospital-wide shared leadership council hosted Kennestone’s third annual Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) Showcase. Under the leadership of clinical nurses Rachael DeMyers, BSN, RN and Orianne Alexander, BSN, RN, the focus was on implementing new and creative ideas in nursing practice. Over 150 attendees viewed the nurses’ submissions; an expert panel of judges selected winners in multiple categories. The council also launched Kennestone’s Nurse Honor Guard. It provides a way for nurses to pay tribute to colleagues who have passed away by attending their funeral and presenting the “Nightingale Tribute,” a special reading that honors a nurse’s unique contributions. Another council undertaking was a breakfast to show appreciation for recently retired nurses. Also new this year was the naming of Kennestone’s first Nurse Scientist, Lucy Leclerc, PhD, RN, NPD-BC. Working closely with the council, Lucy has helped advance a culture of inquiry throughout the hospital. She serves as a resource to support team members in their pursuit of evidence-based practice and research projects. With Lucy’s support, the EBP Showcase grew impressively—from 13 entries last year to 38 poster presentations this year. n
