Translations of Ballot Materials How to Receive Your Election Information in Chinese (including Taiwanese), Korean, Spanish, or Vietnamese

In 2006, Congress reauthorized the Voting Rights Act, which was signed into law by President George W. Bush. The 2006 reauthorization provided instruction to the U.S. Census Bureau to use the American Community Survey and other compatible census data when determining which voting jurisdictions must provide translated election materials. Reauthorization of the Act also included instructed that the U.S. Census Bureau produce language support determinations every five years (as opposed to the previous requirements of ten-year determinations). Orange County must provide bilingual support in Chinese (including Taiwanese), Korean, Spanish, and Vietnamese in compliance with federal law. When a person registers to vote, they may indicate their language preference on the Voter Registration Form. A registered voter can also request election materials in any of the required languages by contacting the Registrar of Voters Office at: Registrar of Voters 1300 South Grand Avenue, Bldg. Election Day Poll Observers Guidelines The election process is a public affair and anyone who wishes may observe. However, the vote of the individual citizen is secret, and no one may interfere with a voter’s right to cast a secret ballot. Members of the precinct boards are sworn election officials of the County of Orange and have complete responsibility for conducting all phases of the election in their precinct. Certain standards are expected of observers. Any person who in any manner interferes with the officers holding an election or conducting a canvass, , as to prevent the election or canvass from being fairly held and lawfully conducted, is punishable by imprisonment pursuant to subdivision (h) of Section 1170 of the Penal Code for 16 months or three years. § 18502
