If the nomination period is extended, the next working day after the close of the extended filing period is the last day that a candidate statement may be withdrawn, but not changed. NOTE: The nomination period will not be extended for the April 15, 2025, Special Municipal Election as there are no eligible incumbents. Confidentiality of Candidate’s Statements Section 13311 Notwithstanding the California Public Records Act, the statements filed pursuant to Section 13307 shall remain confidential until the expiration of the filing deadline. False Statements in Candidate Statement/Fine Section 18351 Any candidate in an election or incumbent in a recall election who knowingly makes a false statement of a material fact in a candidate's statement, prepared pursuant to Section 11327 or 13307, with the intent to mislead the voters in connection with their campaign for nomination or election to a nonpartisan office is punishable by a fine not to exceed one thousand dollars ($1,000). Guidelines for Preparation of Candidate’s Statement The Registrar of Voters Office has a semi-automated system for Sample Ballot input/layout of Candidate Statements of Qualifications. Due to the volume of statements and printing deadlines, it is necessary to have a standardized format for candidate statements.
