Everyone has a beach story to tell. Whether it’s a proposal, a wedding, a honeymoon, or even a memorial celebration, the sands of the world’s shores hold our memories. But it took an entrepreneur like Holly Daniels Christensen to come up with a beautiful, meaningful way to keep those memories with us: Dune Jewelry & Co., the only experiential jewelry brand in the world. The pieces from Holly’s numerous collections allow clients to choose sand from the “Sandbank” (more on this later), or order ready-made pieces that already contain sand from our favorite places, along with other elements, gemstones, and more. Waves, compasses, and starfish can adorn your neck, wrist, fingers, or ears, or more simple pieces with circles that can hold sentimental and personal items. Holly herself wears her Seven Sand Rope Cuff Bracelet every day. “It’s filled with sand and earth elements from all of my favorite memories and travel aspirations,” she said. “Pressed flowers from my wedding, sand from Positano, Italy, shells from St. Thomas, clay from Sedona, Arizona, sand from the Greek Isles, earth from Africa, and Mother of Pearl to remind me to stay calm and positive even in challenging situations.” She started her business making pieces for friends and family at her kitchen table. “The very first design I created was our Island Necklace,” she said. “When I first began making beach sand jewelry, I was using an inlay technique that I eventually patented in 2020.
