The Curriculum The curriculum offer at Maple View School is unique to each child and developed from their EHCP outcomes. All children access literacy, numeracy and PSHE at a level appropriate to their development. There is also a wider focus encompassing communication, self-help skills, social skills, community and creative expression. We create opportunities for the children to explore new interests and activities to enhance their personal development. The children engage in mainly classroom based learning in the mornings and in whole school activities in the afternoons such as horticulture, small animal care, forest school, swimming, music where they have the opportunity to work with peers from different classes and to explore the wider community. A half-termly book, accessible to all of the children regardless of ability, is the focus of whole-school cross-curricular planning. It encompasses music, art, literacy, science and the humanities and of course supports reading and a developing love of books.
Individual and group therapy sessions take place within the classroom, within therapy rooms, outdoors or in the community throughout the school day.
We are a kindness school, encouraging and celebrating acts of kindness during the school day.
The school day is from 9:00- 3.00 Monday – Friday.
Class sizes are between 3 and 5 students in each of the 5 classes. Children are grouped according to their age, ability, communication style, social dynamics and sensory needs.
