Messenger The PARK PLACE OF ELMHURST
Chaplain's Corner A Quiet Invitation The start of a new year often brings big resolutions, but it can also be a gentle reminder to slow down and listen. Creating space for prayer, reflection, and stillness can be especially meaningful during this season of fresh beginnings. Whether you come with gratitude, questions, concerns, or simply a need for quiet, moments spent in prayer can offer comfort and clarity. Prayer doesn’t have to be complicated or formal. It can be as simple as sitting in silence, reading a favorite verse, or lifting up the needs of others in your heart. Many residents have shared how meaningful it is to know they are not praying alone, but as part of a caring and faithful community. With that spirit in mind, we would like to share a few new prayer-related offerings available to residents at Park Place. We now have two Prayer Request Boxes where you can submit prayer requests that will be prayed about at the Conversational Prayer meetings. One of the boxes is on the table in the hallway just before the Wellness Center Office. The other box is on the table in the Prayer Corner on the 5th Floor. Each week, the prayer group will collect the prayer requests and bring them to their weekly meeting. The Prayer Corner on the 5th Floor is a wonderful place to spend a few moments alone with God in prayer and meditation. It is located at the far end of the 5100 hallway. We will soon have signs up to direct you to the Prayer Corner. There are new meditative materials available for you. The Conversational Prayer group continues to meet on Mondays at 3:00 p.m. in the Community Room. You are invited to join us anytime. 45 different residents have participated in this group during the last 13 weeks. In the last few weeks, the group has consisted of 6-10 residents.
WAYS TO PREPARE YOUR HEART • Set aside a few quiet minutes each morning or evening for prayer or reflection. • Write down a prayer request or gratitude to revisit later in the month. • Spend time in the Prayer Corner, even briefly, when you need stillness. • Reach out to another resident with a kind word or listening ear. Small moments of intention can make this month feel more peaceful and connected. Be still, and know that I am God.
