Airline sends data to ATPCO and OAG who provide this data to its subscribers such as the GDS or PSS.

Profiled corporate traveller initiates a travel request through an online booking tool or by calling the TMC.

PROFILED CORPORATE TRAVELER

TMC profile management system identifies traveller and applies known preferences, requirements and policy.

Request could take multiple routes: to the global distribution system, to an aggregator – who would in turn call the GDS or airline – or direct connect to carriers. Traditional path: The GDS pings ATPCO (for fares), OAG (for schedules) and the airline inventory system (for availability). NDC paths: The GDS, aggregator or TMC only pings the airline. Traditional path: The GDS constructs and returns the offers to the TMC. NDC paths: The airlines construct and return the offers directly to the TMC or via an aggregator and/or GDS. The TMC (or OBT) communicates the options to the traveller, flagging or blocking non-preferred options based on the corporate travel programme’s configurations.

Traveller chooses a flight. Airline registers the booking and removes that content from the shelf.

Traditional path & GDS NDC path: Booking request passed through the TMC desktop or OBT back to the GDS. NDC paths: The data flows through the TMC or OBT back to the airline via the GDS/aggregator/TMC. Traditional path: GDS registers PNR which is created in the PSS. When PNR is ticketed the data is sent to the TMC mid-office/back office and to ARC/BSP. NDC paths: Airline registers the booking, potentially settles the transaction and sends the data to ARC/ BSP; integration with mid-office and back-office systems. This is possible as long as the GDS, aggregator or TMC has implemented a solution to enable this, with airline support if needed. Traditional path: ARC/BSP makes final settlement and data is processed by the TMC back office and airline. NDC path: Airline or ARC/BSP make final settlement. Airline may provide additional data to TMC. Note: This infographic was updated in March 2023 and is based on a diagram first published in 2018.
