• Ensure that the appropriate action is taken where updates on new or changing compliance requirements are received. • Liaise with both internal and external stakeholders including the maintenance technical team and external bodies to ensure that the University remains compliant. • To act as ‘subject matter expert’ for all relevant systems; gas, water, asbestos Legionella, HVAC, to current legislative, regulatory and statutory. • To keep up-to-date of all changes and amendments to statutory legislation and mandatory requirements relating to the safe and effective maintenance and operation of building services and installations. • Lead and deliver on the administration of all polices and protocols along with compliance, legislative and operational documents and manuals for each discipline. • To undertake any other reasonable duties as may reasonably be required by the Assistant Director of Campus Operations. • To undertake appropriate professional development and mandatory training activities as identified or required (See Professional Development section). • The role holder is required to minimise environmental impact in the performance of their role and to actively contribute to the delivery of the University’s Environmental Sustainability Policy. Job Purpose To ensure that the University’s compliance with all Estates related statutory requirements and guidance for property on all sites (owned or leased) including in particular, but not limited to, The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, HSE ACoP (L8), The Control of Legionella Bacteria in Water Systems, The Electricity at Work Regulations, The Regulatory Reform Order (Fire Safety), etc. plus alignment with British Standards and industry best practice. To be the responsible person for the day-to-day monitoring and reporting of the University’s compliance function ensuring delivery of a first- class quality and value for money compliance monitoring service which is customer focused delivering high quality and safe environments for students, staff and other stakeholders. Relationships Reporting to: Assistant Director of Campus Operations Main Activities • Lead and take responsibility for the ensuring that the University Estate is compliant with statute in relation to Health and Safety in collaboration with the Health and Safety team, supporting the Assistant Director of Campus Operations in providing advice to the Senior Leadership Team, Executive Team and the Board of Governors. • Ensuring all aspects of the department’s work are carried out in-line with University Health and Safety requirements, statutory obligations and best practice requirements.

Conditions of Service The postholder will be employed by Staffordshire University Services Limited. Staffordshire University Services Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Staffordshire University which recruits and provides both academic and professional support staff to the University. You will be subject to Staffordshire University’s policies and procedures and will be eligible to participate in the Staffordshire University Pension Scheme.
• To be the responsible person for the day- to-day monitoring and reporting of the University’s compliance function. • Support the planning, scheduling and delivery of all compliance testing, inspection and remedial repairs throughout the University Estate eg gas, electricity, asbestos, Legionella, lifts, lightning protection, fire etc. • To manage and co-ordinate the University’s approach to Fire Management throughout the University Estate, ensuring effective training, monitoring and reporting systems are in place to capture and mitigate against risk. • To develop and maintain effective, transparent and consistent information with respect to compliance information requirements. • To ensure effective up to date, data management systems, policies, processes and programmes to provide assurance of ongoing all compliance matters. • Ensure compliance inspections, legal and technical compliance of planned and reactive maintenance activity; ensuring that buildings, plant and assets are recorded and maintained in accordance with statutory and wider requirements. • Monitor and ensure asbestos management plans and the corporate asbestos register remain up-to-date and effective; identifying potential areas of compliance vulnerability or risk and preventative action putting action plan in to resolve. • Produce regular reports on statutory, regulatory and contract compliance for delivery to senior leadership.
