ROYAL ATRIUM INN Life at Royal Atrium Inn A Message from Rick VandenBerg Celebrating Christmas with the Ones We Love
have received throughout the year. It is a time to forgive, to give generously, and to cherish the relationships that enrich our lives. When we worship together—singing carols, reading the story of Christ’s birth, and offering prayers of gratitude—we are reminded that Christmas is not only a celebration of joy, but also an expression of faith. This year, may our celebrations be filled with warmth, kindness, and reverence for the Savior who came to bring light into the world. Let us hold close those we love, extend compassion to those in need, and keep Christ at the very center of all we do. For in Him, we find the true spirit of Christmas—love made flesh, dwelling among us.
The Christmas season is one of the most cherished
times of the year for me and my family—a time to gather close with family and friends, to share laughter, joy, and heartfelt moments that remind us of the true meaning of love. As the world slows down and twinkling lights fill our homes and communities, we are invited to pause and celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ—the greatest gift ever given. Amidst the traditions of decorating trees, exchanging gifts, and preparing festive meals, Christmas calls us to center our hearts on the miracle of that holy night in Bethlehem. It is there that God’s promise of hope was fulfilled in the humble birth of His Son. The beauty of this season lies not in the presents under the tree, but in the presence of Christ among us and the love we share because of Him. Gathering with loved ones during Christmas offers a chance to reflect on the blessings we

Chaplain’s Corner Just Wait
The time of Advent, which at Christmas is designed to have us consider the wait the world has gone through for Jesus first arrival. In the garden of Eden God gave the promise that the offspring of Adam and Eve would crush the head of the serpent, the devil. Throughout the Old Testament the promise of a Savior continued along with the wait . The Savior Jesus was born after centuries of waiting . What a glorious gift He is! The Savior who has removed the penalty of eternal death and punishment because of His perfect life lived and sacrificed. We celebrate and remember the promise and the wait of His first coming. We also continue to wait for the anticipated return of Jesus. The angels spoke to the disciples watching as Jesus rose into the air to return to His Father, “This same Jesus who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back.” What wonderful “gifts” will be given to us after our wait ! So much more than the gifts under a tree that break, wear out or become unwanted. These gifts will last forever! May this verse offer you encouragement if you are impatient or weary in your wait this Christmas. …but they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
How many times in your life have you heard the word Wait . If we take a moment and consider, we could honestly say we have heard and said the word wait too many times to accurately count. The
thought of having to wait for me was always hard as a child, especially at this time of year. It is now only a couple of weeks before the day of Christmas. Think back to when you were a child during the days before the Christmas holiday. Do you remember the anticipation you felt? The house was decorated, the Christmas tree in place and presents under the tree. You found the gifts with your name on them and wondered what it could be as you looked, touched and lifted the package. School was winding down for Christmas break and dates for the celebrations and the church Christmas program were set. But we needed to “ wait for Christmas” the adults would say. In my childhood and perhaps yours, Christmas parties would finally arrive and the wait for gift opening would be prolonged. I remember the seemingly endless meal that needed to be eaten, the dishes were washed, and the tables put to the side so we could gather in a circle to enjoy the gifts given to us. Just “ wait a little more” was often said during those moments.

Royal Atrium Inn Announcements
Christmas Fun Facts 1. The first Christmas trees: Germans in the 16th century first introduced the idea of decorating trees. Back then, trees were adorned with fruits and nuts. Soon after, ornaments began to include paper cutouts and candles. 2. One big tree: The tallest Christmas tree ever erected was a 221 foot Douglas fir. The tree was displayed in downtown Seattle in 1950 and cost $19,000 at the time. 3. Baby Claus: In many Latin countries children don’t receive gifts from Santa Claus. Instead, their presents are from the baby Jesus himself! 4. Traditional Christmas drink: The first eggnog was made in medieval England from a mixture of spices, curdled milk and ale. The drink known as posset would eventually become the eggnog we know today when egg was added to the mixture. 5. Happy and merry: Did you know It used to be more common to say Happy Christmas? It wasn’t until Charles Dickens published his much-loved novel, A Christmas Carol, that Merry Christmas became the standard holiday greeting.
The Royal Atrium family extends its heartfelt birthday greetings to all of the residents who are celebrating this month!
