ROYAL ATRIUM INN Life at Royal Atrium Inn A Message from Rick VandenBerg The Significance of Flag Day Flag Day, observed each year on June 14, is a

choose to display the flag proudly, attend ceremonies, or take time to honor military members and veterans who have defended the freedoms the flag represents. In 2026, these traditions continue to hold deep significance as people reflect on the importance of national unity, service, and respect for one another. For many, the American flag also symbolizes perseverance through challenging times. It represents the ideals of democracy, equality, and opportunity that generations have worked to protect and strengthen. Especially during moments of division or uncertainty, Flag Day offers an opportunity to focus on shared values and a collective commitment to building stronger communities. Flag Day also encourages younger generations to learn about the history of the United States and the meaning behind the stars and stripes. Through education and remembrance, the traditions connected to the flag continue to inspire pride, gratitude, and civic responsibility. As Americans observe Flag Day in June 2026, the red, white, and blue remain more than colors on a banner—they represent the sacrifices of the past, the freedoms of the present, and the hope for the future of our nation.

meaningful opportunity for Americans to reflect on the history, values, and unity represented by the United

States flag. In June 2026, Flag Day continues to serve as a reminder of the freedoms and sacrifices that have shaped our nation and the enduring spirit that brings Americans together. The observance commemorates June 14, 1777, when the Continental Congress approved the design of the first official American flag. Over the centuries, the flag has evolved alongside the growth of the nation, adding stars to represent each state while remaining a timeless symbol of liberty, courage, and hope. Today’s 50-star flag reflects the unity of all Americans and stands as a beacon recognized around the world. Flag Day is not a federal holiday, but it remains an important patriotic observance celebrated in communities, schools, veterans’ organizations, and homes across the country. Many Americans

At the Table June 5th is National Gingerbread Day Did you know

that June kicks off with one of the most delightfully unexpected food holidays of the year? While we usually associate gingerbread with chilly December afternoons and snowy holidays, June 5th is officially National Gingerbread Day! This historic treat actually dates back to ancient times, and during the summer months in medieval Europe, it was a staple at festivals and fairs, often shaped into intricate designs and decorated with real gold leaf!

Chaplain’s Corner Strength

This is a comfort for us as it was a comfort to the people of Israel. We can trust that God will help us in our weaknesses. We are at stages in our lives where hands and knees are weaker. We do pray for knees that will remain steady and strength in our hands as we go through our days. Falls and bumps may be unpleasant for youngsters working on growing, but as seniors they have potential for greater harm. Verse 4 offers hope we can cling to and share with each other in frustrating times of weakness. Say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you.” If your heart is fearful today, please let these words flow over you and settle into your mind. Be strong. Caste fear aside. God will come to help you. Trust God and others to care for you as you manage the weaknesses we experience. Imagine the presence of God coming to you to offer comfort. He comes with greater care and love than a parent or grandparent brings to a child after a weak time in their life. He is there loving and consoling you. We can take great comfort in the future of our lives when we face going to be with Christ when God calls us home. Our faith in Christ gives us assurance that at the time we leave this earth, we can say to each other “Be strong! Your God will come… He will come to save YOU!”

My wife and I are blessed with 5 grandchildren. We have the opportunity to watch them every week and enjoy our time with them! It is a delight to be a grandparent!

We have more flexible time now than when we were parents to observe them as they grow physically, emotionally and spiritually. Many smiles cross our faces as we hear the comments made as they master language, attempt to move and show the development of their personalities. Our 11-month-old grandson, Levi, reminded me of a passage of Scripture a while ago. He has mastered crawling and is now pulling himself up next to furniture and tables in the living room. He does this repeatedly throughout the afternoons we watch him and his sister. Once standing, he eagerly reaches for unattended papers, games, and coffee cups. The challenge comes when he has been standing for a while and begins to tire. Levi’s legs will give way and down he goes. The day we watched him he experienced a couple of bumps on his head. The tears flowed, the wails came and of course the grandparents came to offer him comfort. The scripture passage that came to mind, as I watched what Levi was experiencing was from Isaiah 35:3-4. Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way;
