“BEING A WORKING CLASS BLACK ARTIST, I THINK IT’S ESPECIALLY DIFFICULT TO GET GRANTS AND BE EXPOSED TO EXCITING OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN YOUR OWN COMMUNITY.” - AMBER

“Financial is a huge barrier which would include for example writing competitions charging entry for script submissions, castings being constantly held in London and artists expected to travel there and drama schools charging audition fees to attend auditions. Working class artists have less disposable wealth to spend on opportunities.” ; “Race is a more complex barrier because it’s connected to imposter syndrome. Artists of colour sometimes won’t go for opportunities because they may feel like they only get given them because they “tick that box” so to speak whereas white artists will never doubt their colour when applying for opportunities.” - Connor
