THERE’S A LOT WE WANT TO LEARN, ABOUT ART AND CREATIVITY, SPECIFIC SKILLS LIKE SCREEN PRINTING OR PHOTOGRAPHY, BUT ALSO NON INDUSTRY-SPECIFIC SKILLS THAT CAN HELP US TO DEVELOP OUR CAREERS. WE’RE INTERESTED IN COURSES ON MARKETING, BUSINESS, PUBLIC SPEAKING, HOW TO SET UP A CREATIVE BUSINESS AND DO A TAX RETURN, HOW TO PRICE OUR WORK AND TIME AND HOW TO FIND AND APPLY FOR FUNDING. A LOT OF OUR WORK MOVES INTO DIGITAL SPACES AND WE NEED TO UNDERSTAND COPYRIGHT LAW, DIGITAL PROMOTION, MARKETING, HOW TO MAKE ALGORITHMS WORK FOR US – IT’S A WHOLE TOOLBOX OF SKILLS. WORKSHOPS TO MAP OUT OUR IDEAS AND GET ADVICE ON HOW TO MAKE THEM HAPPEN WOULD BE USEFUL. AND DAY TRIPS COULD HELP DEVELOP OUR CREATIVE PRACTICE – FROM GALLERIES TO THEATRES AND MUSEUMS, IT WOULD BE GREAT TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT PLACES WITH LIKE MINDED PEOPLE AND EXPLORE AND GET INSPIRED TOGETHER. WE WANT TO GAIN THAT ‘CULTURAL CAPITAL’ THAT FEW OF US HAVE HAD THE PRIVILEGE TO TAP INTO, BUT ON OUR OWN TERMS.

“I want to learn everything; creating a framework - day rates, how valuable your talent and art is, how to sustain yourself, copyright, starting up your own business…”; “I’d like group trips to events, festivals, exhibitions, fashion shows…”; “I don’t know how to ask for money, I’ve never seen it. Negotiation is the worst.”; “I could use portfolio workshops.”
