WHITE-LED CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS ARE SHIFTING TOWARDS EMBRACING ANTI-RACIST WORK AND EFFORTS TO REMOVE BARRIERS ARE NOT GOING UNNOTICED. HOWEVER, LONG-TERM, SUSTAINABLE AND NON-TOKENISTIC ACTIONS ARE NEEDED TO REBUILD TRUST WHICH HAS BEEN NEGLECTED AND ERODED FOR TOO LONG. AND BLACK-LED, ARTIST-LED SPACES ARE NEEDED TO BRING TOGETHER DIVERSE COMMUNITIES OF CREATIVES IN SPACES WHERE THEY CAN EXPRESS FREELY. MULTIPLE BARRIERS TO ACCESSING FUNDING WERE RAISED DURING CONSULTATIONS: - FORMAL AND ACADEMIC PROCESSES AND FORMS - LACK OF ALTERNATIVE WAYS TO APPLY, SUCH AS AUDIO OR VIDEO RECORDINGS - FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES NOT VISIBLE TO DIVERSE ARTISTS - LACK OF FEEDBACK

- NON-DIVERSE FUNDING AND INTERVIEW PANELS - FUNDING NOT AVAILABLE FOR WIDER NEEDS AND LIMITED TO TRADITIONAL DISCIPLINES FUNDING AIMS AND PRIORITIES SET TOP-DOWN MANY DIVERSE ARTISTS DO NOT KNOW WHERE TO FIND OPPORTUNITIES, OR STRUGGLE TO NEGOTIATE FOR A FAIR DEAL. CONSULTATION GROUPS SHARED DIVERSE UP-SKILLING NEEDS, FROM MANAGEMENT TO ADMINISTRATIVE SKILLS, TO CREATIVE AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT. BUT PARTICIPANTS ALSO HAVE SKILLS TO SHARE, AND THE ABILITY TO BE ADVOCATES AND CREATIVE AGENTS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES AND BEYOND. MANY CREATIVES REPORTED FEELING ISOLATED AND DISCONNECTED FROM THE CULTURAL SCENE AND EXPRESSED A STRONG DEMAND FOR MENTORSHIP, SUPPORT NETWORKS AND ROLE MODELS THAT REPRESENT AND UNDERSTAND THEIR EXPERIENCES AND CULTURE.
