What is your take on the outlook for international business schools over the next three to five years? “I believe graduate business education is at a crossroads, between market relevance and peer validation. This implies achieving a series of different balances: between applied research and academic rigour; between open innovation and academic collaboration; and between solving short‑term business problems and building the foundation for future knowledge. In any case, I believe that the future is both extremely exciting and challenging; we will need to draw on all of our talent and ability to query the status quo and create value holistically.”

Turning to the importance of lifelong learning: what strategy do you have for enabling this among your alumni networks? “We have a holistic strategy that adapts to the different profiles of our graduates. At EGADE we do not believe in standardisation, so it is important for us to be able to understand and meet the needs of each of our graduates. Biography Horacio Arredondo became dean of EGADE Business School at the Technology Institute of Monterrey (Tecnológico de Monterrey) in Mexico in June 2022. Arredondo acts as an advisor to and is a director of several companies, with experience across various industries and countries in Latin America, in both the private and public sector, as well as at NGOs. On the academic side, Arredondo teaches courses in strategy and organisational alignment. His research interests focus on family enterprise, with particular emphasis on the intersection between strategy and socio-emotional wealth. Previously, he was vice-dean of postgraduate studies and executive development at the Adolfo Ibáñez University (UAI) Business School in Santiago de Chile. In addition, he was executive director of the Centre for Family Businesses at the UAI, as well as holding the post of professor in the area of strategy and general management
