AMBA & BGA EXCELLENCE AWARDS 

Kerry McLaverty was the winner of the MBA Leadership Award

MBA LEADERSHIP AWARD 2022/23 Kerry McLaverty, UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, University College Dublin, Ireland The completion of an MBA at UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School was the springboard for catapulting a chartered physiotherapist at Ireland’s only children’s hospice to becoming its new CEO in just three years. In turbulent times and in less than two years since assuming the CEO role, McLaverty has capitalised on what she learned during her MBA to oversee record, year-on-year fundraising revenues for the LauraLynn hospice. McLaverty has also secured a historic €1.5 million in annual statutory funding, enabling the expansion of hospice services and the development of the first children’s hospice regional hub in Ireland. MBA STUDENT OF THE YEAR 2022/23 Fardod O’Kelly, UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, University College Dublin, Ireland While undertaking his executive MBA at UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, Fardod O’Kelly also studied for an advanced diploma in medical law and continued to practice medicine and progress his professional goals. In particular, newly acquired business acumen from the EMBA has allowed O’Kelly to develop a thriving new surgical practice during Covid-19 and a new public/private partnership that provides access to surgery for children in the west/south of Ireland. O’Kelly has also been invited onto several European urological boards as an expert in his field and has continued to research and publish.

Fardod O’Kelly was announced as MBA Student of the Year
