The disciples were commanded to baptize. This means that they were to enlist active members for the church of Christ. Baptism is the public identifica tion of the believer with the visible church. When a believer is baptized, he is making open confession of his saving faith in Christ, and he is donning the uniform of a Christian soldier. Baptism is a public announcement of the con vert’s determination to follow Christ — BROWN— FIVE CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS John Brown University Siloam Spring's, Arkansas “Training Head, Heart, and Hand” Brown Military Academy San Diego, California Junior High thru Junior College Junior School— 1st thru 6th grades Southern California Military Academy Long Beach, California Pre-kindergarten thru 9th Grade Brown School for Girls Glendora, California 1st Grade thru High School Brown Military Academy of the Ozarks Siloam Springs, Arkansas 1st Grade thru High School WRITE INDIVIDUAL SCHOOL FOR COMPLETE INFORMATION

the Saviour’s. Laborers are hard to find. Note that Christ does not ask for church members, but for workers. Christ commands the church to pray for workers. This is an important func tion of the church. If God’s people would take Him seriously, the midweek service would be crowded with believers ready to pray this important prayer. There should be constant, specific and earnest prayer that the Holy Spirit, the “ Lord of the harvest,” will call many of the young people of your church into this important task of winning the lost. Jesus Christ is Concerned That His Church Remain Loyal to the Task His righteous anger blazed when He discovered that the leaders of Israel had permitted the temple to be turned into a den of thieves (21:13,14). There is a tendency on the part of the church today to side-step the main purpose for which they are a church, namely, win ning souls and building them up in their holy faith. In some quarters the church has degenerated to a mere so cial club, or a tool in the hands of those who advocate statism in the form of socialism and communism. Let those who love the church keep the church pure and devoted to its initial task (Matt. 28:18-20). Matthew 28:16-20 has been well called “ The Marching Orders of the Church.” These verses not only point the church to her obligation to Amer ica, but to the whole world. It is true, however, that America offers a tre mendous challenge to the Church—a real “heavenly vision” such as that given to the Apostle Paul (Acts 26:19). Thousands of churches are closing their doors each year. There are over 60,000 closed churches in America! Eighty out of every one hundred rural children have no way of hearing the gospel except over the radio! Two out of every three children in the United States are not in any Sunday school! Crime among young people increased over 50% in 1949 according to an FBI report! Crime in the larger American cities rose from 207,456 offenses in the first six months of 1950 to 553,436 offenses for the same period in 1951. The Power of Christ For This Mission v. 18 Jesus said “ all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” This means that His power is absolute. He has all power. There is nothing He cannot do; there is nothing too ‘hard for Him. His power is universal, reaching to all of Heaven and to all the earth. The hosts of wickedness in high places are not more powerful than He (Eph. 6:12). The potent force of evil in the human heart is not stronger than Christ. Christian trust in his mighty Lord and go forth to conquer in His Name. The Program of Christ in This Mission (vv. 19, 20a) Because Christ has all power, He commands with authority that His dis ciples carry on His work as ambassa dors in the world. You will note that the program He outlines is threefold, namely, making disciples, baptizing or enlisting, and instructing. Jesus commanded His. disciples to make disciples of all nations. This is the meaning of the word translated teach in v. 19. To disciple is to win to Christ; it is evangelism. The church is a soul-winning institution. If the church is not winning people to Christ, it has no right to be called a “ church” . O W N S Pulpit and Choir* i l Headquarters for weft religious - supplies
