Catholic Church toward labor has un dergone a radical change in the past twenty years. Today Catholicism is mak ing a tremendous bid for support of these unions. The fact is that the CIO is 60% Roman Catholic and the Transport Union of the CIO is 90% Roman Cath olic. The propaganda is, of course, that the Pope should be' recognized as the supreme authority not only in spiritual matters but in social-economical matters as well. Seed For War Modern public health measures are speeding the growth of world population which may result in more wars of ag gression in order to secure needed food supplies and raw materials. In a recent address by Warren S. Thompson, Di rector of the Scripps Foundation for Research in Population Trends, facts were disclosed to show that Europe has tripled its population since 1900 and other countries are increasing at a tre mendous rate. Inevitably our countries are going to ask themselves, “Why can’t we have more land, more oil or more tin, more iron? The only way to get it is to take it.” The factor which complicates the problem is that with modern health measures people live longer and instead of the population leveling off it is grow ing at a terrific rate. All of this pre pares fuel for the fires of future con flicts. Day of Prayer One of the requests made by Evangel ist Billy Graham as he conducted a wor ship service from the steps of the United States Capitol in Washington, was that the Senate and House of Representatives request the President to set aside a day for confession of sin, humility and turn ing to God. Shortly thereafter, Repre sentative J. Percy Priest of Tennessee, introduced a bill in the House calling upon the President to answer this re quest. The result was a resolution call ing for an annual National Day of Prayer unanimously adopted by the Sen ate which provides that the President shall set aside and proclaim a suitable day each year as a National Day of Prayer. This will be better than just a single day of prayer for it would be per petuated year after year. The bill was sent to the Senate Judicial Committee. Five Sermons J* The Rev. Roger G. Schmuck of Min neapolis, asked his parishioners if they could hear only five sermons discussed what five topics would they like. The topics which received the most votes were: (1) Immortality. Is there life aft er death? How can we he assured there is? Where can we find the key to the Pearly Gates? (2) How can we keep faith in the face of adversity? Is great er faith developed by adversity? (3) What can we do to secure and maintain world peace? (4) How can adults keep children from losing faith? (5) When all goes well with our lives, how can we keep from feeling self-sufficient and independent of God? T H E K I N G ' S B U S I N E S S

Better Spank Children <£ Recently County Judge Hubert Glov er, Pueblo, Colorado, told a father that it was not only his prerogative, but his responsibility, to spank his minor chil dren if such punishment was necessary to maintain discipline. The father, Joe Gallegos, reported that he had done everything within his power short of spanking the children, to keep them in school. To this the Judge replied, “ You are their father, and it is up to you to keep them in school even if you have to spank them once in a while to do it.” To this we might add that the sensible statement of the Bible is that this is a basic requirement for the discipline of children (Proverbs 22:6 and 13:24). Few Words We wonder about the progress of the world when we remember that the story of the creation in Genesis is told in 400 words, the Ten Commandments contain only 297 words, Lincoln’s Get tysburg Address comprises but 266 words, and the Declaration of Inde pendence required only 1,321 words to set up a new concept of freedom. On the other hand, the OPA recently used 2,500 words to announce a reduction on the price of a cabbage seed. Sheet regularly published by the Meth odist Church in the interest of absti nence, lists a series of more than 75 top-notch football stars who have abso lutely nothing to do with liquor in any form. A typical testimony is that of Vic Janowicz, Ohio State’s left half back who states: “ To do your best in anything, don’t drink, because success and popularity aren’t attained by indul gence in alcohol. I know this to be true, so be an All-American and stick with your cokes.” Construction Go Ahead The National Production Authority recently approved the start on construc tion of 645 churches, orphanages and community buildings in the nine months following July first. The total estimated cost is more than $200,000,000 and rep resents a recognition on the part of the government of the value of continued £ An El Paso woman who died last September, left $2,000,000 for the teach ing of the Bible. Mrs Lee Moor’s hand written will left half of her estate to the American Bible Society and the American Board of Missions to the Jews. According to the testimony of her hus band, an El Paso contractor, his wife had as thorough an understanding of the Bible as any preacher in town. Nearly 2,000,000 Enrollment A nation-wide enrollment of 1,890,000 Protestant school children in the Re leased Time Educational Programs was recently reported in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Edwin L. Shaver, Executive Direc tor of the Weekday Religious Education Department of the National Council, re marks that these figures refute the im pression that weekday religious educa tion is all “washed up.” Control of Labor Unions «Jt In a recent article appearing in the Converted Catholic, author Angelo Lo- Vallo points out that Roman Cathol icism is today as great a threat as communism to American Labor Unions. It seems that the attitude of the Roman church construction. $2,000,000 Given
