Hey, everyone! It’s good to be back. I’ve been pretty busy over the past couple of years, working on all kinds of initiatives. I wanted to come back to our newsletter eventually, and it just happens to return at one of the better times of year. Spring is a time of renewal and rejuvenation — what better time to breathe life back into something? I’m eager to get the newsletter started again for this month and future ones. I thought I’d start May off by writing about someone really special to me. Mother’s Day is this month, and I think a lot about her around this time of year. My mom, Lynda, was an incredible human being. She always strove to be the best that she could be, and this had a big impact on me. She had two characteristics that I really looked up to while I was growing up, and they still affect me to this day. She always fought for those who were less fortunate in life. Fighting vigorously to speak out and standing up for people who couldn’t, my mom always supported those who needed GETTING BACK INTO IT IN MAY

any kind of help. She was involved in special education throughout most of her years; it was her purpose in life. The other characteristic of hers that I admire was how she valued the importance of a good work ethic. She was assiduous in all the work she was given, pulling the best out of herself in order to do as much as possible for her job and other people. When I was in high school, I saw my mom portray both of these qualities. She held a position as the school’s counselor, so I was able to see her and how she worked with the students and other staff members quite a lot. I can remember how hard she applied herself at her job. As a school employee, her contract said she was only required to work regular business days and hours, and it wasn’t the highest paying job out there either. But, almost every day, she would work into the evenings after everyone else left for the day. Whether it was talking to parents or preparing a report for the school, she’d be

there, handling it. She did an exceptional amount of work given what was required of her and what she was getting paid to do. I like to say I strive to do the same in my own job. Though I’ll never be as good as she was, I definitely aspire to be someone like her. I want to be able to speak out for my clients whose voices aren’t heard because they are battling huge insurance companies and for those who have been wrongly accused of crimes. The Compton Law Firm was built to help individuals receive the legal advice and representation they deserve during the most difficult times in their lives. To help our clients, we offer our best to get them through. In the practice of law, if I can have half of the same conscientious work ethic as my mother did throughout her career, I’ll be one very successful lawyer.

This May, I encourage you all to think about the ways in which a special person has impacted your life.

“IF I CAN HAVE HALF OF THE SAME CONSCIENTIOUS WORK ETHIC AS MY MOTHER DID THROUGHOUT HER CAREER, I’LL BE ONE VERY SUCCESSFUL LAWYER.”

ROAD TRIPS DON’T HAVE TO BE PAINFUL TRY GAMES, AUDIOBOOKS, AND PODCASTS TO PASS THE TIME

PLAY AN AUDIOBOOK OR PODCAST We get it. Sometimes passengers don’t want to play games. Occasionally, they’d rather relax or take a nap. However, your listening material doesn’t have to be limited to Dad’s favorite music. Instead, consider listening to a family-friendly audiobook or podcast, which can make the longest and most boring parts of your trip an entertaining or educational experience. Almost any popular book is available in audio form, but it can be hard to find an enjoyable podcast. “Transistor” is a science-focused podcast that explores subjects kids and adults will find fascinating. Or if you’re looking for something fictional, try “Storynory,” in which the narrator tells fairy tales and legends from all over the globe.

Summer is right around the corner, which means you’ll soon pile the whole family into the car, ready to brave the road for a vacation. Everyone knows that riding in the car for hours can be torture. But with a little creativity, you can turn the worst part of a long trip into a fun event. PACK A TRAVEL GAME When the excitement of the family vacation starts to wear off, keep the peace and entertain your kids with a travel game. Many board game manufacturers offer travel-sized versions that are easy to pack and play in the car. Before your next road trip, consider purchasing digital Yahtzee, which packs all the fun of the classic game without the dice, or IQ Fit, a logic game with over 100 challenges. At Compton Law, we are determined to help people who may be facing one of the most difficult times of their lives. We specialize in many different fields and branches of the law, enabling us to assist as many people as we can with whatever draining and stressful situation they bring to us. Compton Law is a civil, criminal, and family law firm. We help injury victims and their families recover from serious car accidents, medical mistakes, prescription drug errors, child injuries, and even wrongful death. We can aid couples through divorce and child custody proceedings, and we guide clients through the process of managing the death of a loved one through the probate and estate-administration process.

Both games cost around $10 and can provide hours of entertainment.

INCLUDE THE WHOLE FAMILY Once the travel games no longer pique anyone’s interest, try an activity that can be fun for the whole family: a traditional road trip game. If you have a car full of storytellers, try “Fortunately, Unfortunately.” The rules are simple. The first person starts by saying, “fortunately,” and mentioning something good about the road trip or the destination. The next person (moving clockwise) then follows by saying something “unfortunate” about the previous person’s statement. Take turns with every passenger in the car. If someone stumbles, they get a strike; three strikes and you’re out. The last passenger standing wins. Another branch of law we take on regards any form of nursing home abuse. Compton Law has experience and expertise in handling elder abuse lawsuits. Our experience ensures that we have the resources necessary to tackle these cases and gain justice for nursing home residents and their families. Our goal is not only to recover compensation for nursing home residents who have experienced abuse, but also to deter other elder-care facilities from engaging in similar conduct. Our specialties don’t stop there. We at Compton Law also aim to settle your potentially stress-inducing insurance disputes. Our lawyers are well-versed in insurance law and will do everything we can to hold

WE ARE HERE FOR YOU WHATEVER YOUR CASE MAY BE

insurance companies accountable for the fair sums they owe. We have seen many cases in which an insurance company failed to properly handle or pay an uninsured motorist policy, and the insured was able to collect hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars. You paid your premiums, now let us help you gain the compensation you deserve. No matter which case you bring us, we promise to work our hardest to seek the justice you deserve, and if necessary, we will take your case all the way to trial to get it.

AUTO ACCIDENT INSURANCE CLAIM BASICS

THE IMPORTANCE OF PROPER REPRESENTATION

When you’re involved in any kind of car wreck, it’s important to contact an Oklahoma auto accident lawyer before speaking with an insurance company, because once you’ve been in an accident, you have entered into a legal battleground. Without proper representation, you would be significantly disadvantaged. After you contact your attorney, they will report the accident to your insurance carrier, and then the process of filing a claim will begin. After submitting, a claims adjuster will either call, write, or email the attorney regarding your claim. They will look at your policy to determine the types of coverage, deductibles, and any coverage limits that may affect your claim. The slightest error or miscommunication can lead to your claim being denied. If your claim is simple, the adjuster will want you to get an estimate for repairs before they send you a check. You and your attorney will have to fill out some paperwork, but you will not have to meet with the adjuster in person. If your claim is more complicated, the negotiation process will take longer and a lawsuit may need to be filed. More often than not, if you are injured and have car damage, the property damage portion will be settled first. Then, your injury claim will continue until it’s completed with medical treatment and care.

After we receive sufficient information to file an insurance claim with the other party’s insurance company, we will begin the same process with them. This process is drastically different because their insurance has no legal obligation to you whatsoever. Their primary goal is to settle and close the claim as quickly and cheaply as possible.

If you’ve been in an accident and aren’t sure where to turn, call Compton Law at (405) 542-2529. You don’t have to go through the aftermath of an accident alone. We can help you through it.

Bobbie the Wonder Dog’s Incredible Journey

Imagine America in 1923. Yankee Stadium opened its doors for the very first time. Walt and Roy Disney founded The Walt Disney Company. The first issue of Time magazine hit newsstands. President Warren G. Harding died of a heart attack in office, and Vice President Calvin Coolidge became the 30th president. And Bobbie the Wonder Dog trekked 2,550 miles to return home.

any trace of the collie. The search continued throughout their stay, but time ran out, and the Braziers had to return home to Oregon without their beloved Bobbie. What the Braziers didn’t know was that Bobbie had been searching for his family as well. He may have been scared away, but he was determined to get back home. And so began his incredible journey. He turned his head west and began walking. And walking. With winter setting in, Bobbie had a monumental task ahead. Bobbie swam across numerous rivers. He trekked across the Great Plains and over the Rocky Mountains. While we will never know exactly what Bobbie endured, we know he made it home. Over 2,500 miles later, in February, 1924, a tired and beaten-down pup arrived home in Silverton, Oregon, to a stunned family. Bobbie the Wonder Dog’s story made national headlines. He received a medal and the key to the city, and he became a silent movie star in the film “The Call of the West.” Today, you can visit Bobbie’s memorial near his home in Oregon.

Of all the stories to come out of 1923, Bobbie’s may be the most incredible. It all started with a road trip. The Brazier family of Silverton, Oregon, decided to take a road trip to visit relatives in Wolcott, Indiana. Mom, Dad, their two daughters, and their Scotch collie piled in the family Overland Red Bird touring car and headed across preinterstate-highway- system America.

Several days later, after the Braziers had settled in with their Wolcott relatives,

Bobbie the Scotch collie was attacked by a pack of dogs. The dogs scared Bobbie away, and despite a long search around Wolcott, the family was unable to find
