The popular seaside resort of Torquay is our base for this lovely tour, which includes a river cruise and steam train excursion, plus the services of a local guide for a day. We have extended the stay here as the hotel oers a complimentary taxi service each day, so a full day at leisure can certainly be recommended.

Day 1 Travel to Torbay. We recommend a stop enroute in Bath to explore the city’s Roman and Georgian treasures. Day 2 Travel north for a visit to Topsham or Exmouth and a delightful cruise on the River Exe followed by a scenic rail journey. Once a thriving port, Topsham is now a pretty maritime town with a mix of fascinating architecture, from 17th and 18th century Dutch style merchants’ houses to antique tea shops and pubs. Exmouth is a lively town with 2 miles of golden sands where the Exe meets the sea. Exact details of today’s itinerary will be provided once tide times are available.
Day 3 A local guide will join the group for a full day excursion through the beautiful scenery of Dartmoor. Guides will have their preferred routes and stopping points but the tour will include the ancient market town of Tavistock, an opportunity to view Buckfast Abbey (cost not included) and hopefully views of the lovely wild ponies for which Dartmoor is famous. Day 4 A day at leisure. For those wishing to spend time in Torquay, the hotel oers a transfer service for guests. Please ask us for further details, if required. Day 1 Travel to the hotel in Plymouth. Day 2 A long but worthwhile day to the world famous Eden Project. This unique regeneration project has transformed a scar on the landscape into a global garden featuring two enormous glass Biomes. The Eden Project is always changing so, even if you’ve been before, you’ll see something dierent next time. Allow 4-5 hours per visit. Day 3 A leisurely day in Plymouth, Britain’s Ocean City. Visitors can take advantage of the great shopping opportunities, in addition to uncovering hundreds of years of history including Sir Francis Drake and the Spanish Armada, the Mayower sailing in 1620 and the rebuilding of the city following the Blitz in World War II.
Enjoy time at Plymouth Hoe, the Barbican and Sutton Harbour, with its quaint cobbled streets and plethora of independent retailers. With embarkation from the Barbican Landing Stage, we include a delightful boat trip with commentary detailing the history and heritage of the stunning Plymouth coastline. Day 4 Travel to the Lost Gardens of Heligan, amazingly discovered in 1991 under a blanket of brambles after 70 years of neglect. Many of the original plants have been rescued. Time allowing, we recommend an afternoon visit to the delightful village of Mevagissey, one of Cornwall’s most picturesque shing villages. Day 5 Homeward journey.
