Berlin and the Hanseatic Coast

This new tour combines the vibrant city of Berlin with the historic coastline, and highlights the changing face of Germany over the last 700 years. Berlin has much to oer visitors, including museums, galleries and the more recent Cold War history. The northern coastline is a great base from which to explore the mediaeval cities of the Hanseatic League, such as Lübeck and Schleswig.

Day 1 Channel crossing. Overnight in North Germany. Day 2 Travel through Germany to Berlin for a 2 night stay. Day 3 A full day exploring Berlin, including the Brandenburg Gate, Check Point Charlie and the Reichstag. There are still sections of ‘The Wall’ to see too. A morning guided tour is highly recommended. Day 4 Leave Berlin and make a stop in nearby Potsdam, renowned for its palaces and gardens. Continue on to Travemünde for a 3 night stay. Day 5 A free day to explore the pretty town. Take the land train for a guided tour and enjoy the many cafés overlooking the water and port. Alternatively,

stroll along the beach, visit the mediaeval lighthouse or enjoy the hotel facilities.

Day 6 A full day to the UNESCO World Heritage city of Lübeck. Discover the mediaeval centre with its many alleyways, courtyards and churches. The Holsten Gate is the city’s famous landmark, along with the Castle Monastery. Surrounded by water, a visit to the Museum Harbour to see the traditional sailing ships is highly recommended. A guided city tour is included. Return to Travemünde via the pretty spa town of Bad Schwartau for a short stop. Day 7 Depart Travemünde and travel across Germany to an overnight stay in the Antwerp area. Day 8 Short Channel crossing to Dover and home.

Largely destroyed during WWII, the city has been lovingly reconstructed, with cultural and architectural gems to discover, such as the Fraunenkirche, Castle and Dresden Zwinger, considered one of the nest Baroque buildings in Germany. Day 4 Take a morning cruise on the scenic River Elbe, from the city centre down to the impressive Pillnitz Palace and beautiful gardens. The architecture is a curious mix of Baroque and Oriental inuences which was once the summer residence for the Saxon rulers. Enjoy time to explore before taking

the short journey back to Dresden by coach. Day 5 A full day beginning with a visit to the famous musical city of Leipzig. A guided tour is recommended to gain the most from this impressive city. Return to Dresden via Meissen Porcelain for a guided tour including their workshop, with free time to explore the museum. Day 6 A full day beginning with a visit to Moritzburg and admission to this fairytale castle and gardens. In the afternoon, join the scenic Lössnitzgrund Railway for a relaxing steam train ride through the pretty Saxony countryside to Radebeul. Day 7 Depart Dresden and travel across Germany to an overnight stay in the Aachen area. Day 8 Short Channel crossing to Dover and home.
