Day 1 Travel to your hotel in Essex. Day 2 Today begins in picturesque Saron Walden, with its heritage reecting the wealth of this medieval, market town across the ages. Explore the quirky, cosmopolitan market, held here since 1141 on Tuesdays and Saturdays. From here, take the short journey to what was once one of the largest and most opulent houses in Jacobean England, Audley End House and Gardens, to learn about its past, of the uctuating fortunes and life both above and below stairs. Day 3 Meet your guide for a half day tour of the Essex coast and Blackwater Estuary. Hear tales of smugglers navigating the many inlets and shifting sands under the cover of darkness. Enjoy a stop in the ancient town of Maldon, home to many a Thames Barge. This afternoon, we venture to award
winning Green Island Gardens. The 20 acres of private gardens were designed by its owner Fiona Edmond and display a huge range of unusual trees, shrubs, perennials and bulbs. Day 4 First stop today is a visit to Sutton Hoo. This hauntingly beautiful estate, with far-reaching views over the River Deben, is home to one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of all time. See the Royal Burial Ground, take in the incredible views from the 17-metre tower and discover the history of the ship burial of an Anglo-Saxon king and his treasured possessions. Head then for a scenic drive along the Suolk coast stopping, time allowing, in some of its charming seaside villages such as Aldeburgh, Thorpeness and Southwold. Day 5 Homeward journey.

Day 1 Travel to Suolk with a recommended stop in the historic university city of Cambridge en route. Day 2 Travel to the much admired Beth Chatto Gardens, where admission is included. Once an overgrown wasteland, the gardens are an inspiration to all visitors. Continue to Waldringeld to board MV Jahan for a cruise on the calm waters of River Deben, one of the most beautiful spots on the East Coast. Following the cruise, visit Woodbridge, the largest market town on the river and home to one of only ve tide-mills restored in the UK. Day 3 Excursion to Lavenham for a guided walking tour. Known as ‘England’s Finest Medieval Village’,
Lavenham is a quaint village with ne examples of timber framed Tudor buildings. Continue to Flatford, home to the 18th century mill made famous in Constable’s paintings, before visiting the delightful village of Dedham. Day 4 Travel past Chelmsford to RHS Garden Hyde Hall, where we include admission. An eclectic, yet ne garden with wonderful panoramic views over Essex which often surprise the visitor. On then for time at leisure in the seaside resort of Frinton- on-Sea, with its tree lined avenues and elegant esplanade. Day 5 Homeward journey.
