The Apostle Paul reminds us, “It is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed?’ (Romans 13:11). * Past experience should be a guide post, not a hitching post. * * * HATRED UNHEALTHY Strange how the mind reacts to events of life, often causing physical disturbances. A doctor recently wrote about a woman who had developed a most strange rash which did not seem to respond to any type of treatment. It mystified the medical profession in the area. Then, one day, when the phy sician went to the home, he was met at the front door by his patient who pointed her finger to a woman work ing out in the yard next door. She de clared, “You see that neighbor of mine? I wish I could kill her!” She spoke with such vehemence, that the doctor could see it was greatly troubling her. He replies softly, “/ think I’ve discovered the root of your problem. This unusual corruption, which has broken out in a rash all over your body, is a result of hate. You get things straightened out with that woman next door, then I’ll come back to see you again.” At first she was mad, then disgusted with herself, and finally, humble enough to ask forgiveness. And as the doctor re ported, when he returned, there was no sign of the ugly rash on the patient whatsoever. Sometimes, the sin and corruption of our hearts does not break out so that it can be seen visibly, and yet it remains to fester in the heart, and our souls are covered w ith the canker. The Bible gives us the exhorta tion, “That we should believe on the name of his Son lesus Christ, and love one another, as., he gave us command ment” (lohn 3:23). * *
