2025 CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS’ BOOKS IN SPANISH
GENERAL INDEX
In Ediciones Castillo we consider literature essential for providing an ethical and emotionally rich education. Choosing stories from some of the finest writers and illustrators throughout Latin America, we hope to take our young readers on a truly meaningful reading adventure, during which their own sense of personal identity grows and the power of words unfold. We choose funny, moving, realistic and fantastic stories for children and teachers to share. This year for preschoolers, En forma de palabras (Shaping Words) by Micaela Chirif and Fabiola Anchorena is a joyful romp amongst word sounds and pictures. Mexican author Gabriela Peyron’s picture book Domingo (Sunday) and David Unger’s José, cocinero del mundo (José Feeds the World) explore landscape, family and community, whilst themes of bullying, information, birth and reproduction permeate other new releases through funny and warm engaging illustrations. Our star hit for middle graders, Elvis nunca se equivoca (Elvis is Never Wrong) by Rodrigo Morlesin is a human, touching story about the importance of family and the joy of living in the company of dogs. We hope you enjoy our books as much as we do and that they encourage open, curious children and young readers everywhere.

Gallo de cristal Glass Rooster Francesca Massai (text and illustration)
Eliot and Kailash are pen pals. They live in very different places. But when they exchange letters and drawings, they discover that they both have pets, they both love climbing trees, and they both go to school by bus. Their worlds look very different, but in fact they are very similar.
Once upon a time, the rooster finds a letter right on his doorstep, and he picks it up with a single peck. It is an invitation to the pigs’ wedding. But not every animal in the neighborhood has been invited to the big event, and the wolf is not happy, so he devours the guests. Well, not all of the guests… and the little bird will soon teach him a lesson. A traditional Italian folk tale reminds us how valuable both imagination and confidence truly can be.

Tadashi Akiyama (text and illustration) Little Camaleón goes out to discover the world that surrounds him. He wants to try everything and, if that was not enough, he also changes colors in the process. He relates to his environment —the animals, the plants, and the clouds that he encounters along the way— in this manner. He looks for his own color and, with it, what he loves the most. What color will Camaleón become today? A book for children to experience emotions, learn to recognize them, and expand their world. Which one is round: an apple or an armadillo? Which one is longer: a snake or an ant? Which one is faster: a puppy or a snail? Which one can reach higher: a cat or a mouse? A book that stimulates exploration and transforms information into knowledge of the world. Critical thinking / Language and communication / Logical and mathematical thinking

A book that empowers children’s critical thinking as they identify and define the world around them. Autonomy and identity / Emotions, self-knowledge and self-care / Growth and maturity

Undoubtedly, hanging out with others is not so easy! Tú explores a series of everyday situations in the life of preschoolers which encourage self-awareness through the emotions of others as well as their own. A book that allows young children to recognize the value of others as they discover their environment.
