Oxfordshire County Council

National Express

Oxfordshire County Council partnered with LCMB to help create a decarbonisation strategy for the local authority’s buildings estate and helped support public sector decarbonisation grant applications. • Analysis and review of each estate building and the existing heating and building system. • Implementation of optimised and efficient heating system using heat pumps and infrared heating and eradication of fossil fuel usage in OCC buildings. • Recommendations for electrical efficiency improvements using renewable generation technology. These alternative sustainable recommendations provided Oxfordshire County Council with a plan that was in line with their ambitious net zero 2030 target. “One of the key aspects that has really come out the work that LCMB have done is looking at the different buildings and implementing the heat decarbonisation plans. Having a detailed understanding for each individual building has helped us understand what the estate wide picture looks like.”

National Express West Midlands is the major operator of local bus services in the region with the largest fleet of buses in the UK (over 1,400) – including a significant fleet of zero- emission vehicles. It is part of Mobico Group, a leading international shared mobility provider of bus, coach and rail services, employing 46,000 people in 12 countries across the UK, North America, continental Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. The project in question was the installation of a full fleet of 140 electric vehicles and associated infrastructure, in line with the client’s fleet decarbonisation targets. Difficult to implement with large M&E requirements and lots of moving parts when managing the project lifecycle. LCMB has successfully managed projects for the client and has a strong understanding of the client’s values and ways of working. The client has past experience of LCMB’s work and the tangible benefits associated with our involvement in projects.

Birkbeck, University of London

The Royal Academy of Arts

Birkbeck are a world class teaching and research institution located in Bloomsbury London with three faculties Humanities and social science, Business and Law and Science. Over the last few years LCMB have been engaged by Birkbeck to produce an Estates Strategy to support the Institution transition its estate into its third century and enable its strategy to improve research excellence, student teaching and experience. LCMB have also been commissioned to create an Energy and Carbon Management Plan to set out how Birkbeck will transition to net zero carbon for scope 1, 2 and 3.

The Royal Academy of Art is an art institution based in Burlington House in Piccadilly in London, England. Founded in 1768, it has a unique position as an independent, privately funded institution led by eminent artists and architects. LCMB have supported the RA to set out a framework to reduce their scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon emissions, become more sustainable and transition to a net zero carbon future.

Job Description

Position: Consultant – Net Zero Carbon (NZC)

Purpose As a Net Zero Carbon Consultant at LCMB, you will help our clients navigate their journey to net zero carbon. You will work closely with diverse public and private sector organisations and stakeholders to assess carbon footprints, develop decarbonisation strategies, and implement energy-saving initiatives tailored to their needs. We are looking for an ambitious Consultant to support our clients in achieving regulatory compliance and sustainability goals. This role is ideal for someone eager to develop their net zero and technical skills in areas such as ESOS, EPCs, DECs, and emissions reporting. Carbon Assessment & Foot printing: Conduct carbon audits for buildings, operations, and supply chains, identifying key emission sources. Support clients with their scope 1,2 and 3 transition to Net Zero. • Decarbonisation Strategies: Develop practical, cost- effective plans to support clients in achieving net zero carbon objectives. • Energy Efficiency Projects: Assess energy performance, recommend improvement measures, and oversee their implementation. • Policy & Compliance: Advise clients on relevant legislation, standards, and frameworks, such as MEES, ESOS, and PAS 2060. • Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyse energy and sustainability data, prepare reports, and communicate findings effectively to clients. • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to promote sustainability initiatives and build partnerships. • Training & Awareness: Deliver presentations, workshops, and training sessions to raise awareness about carbon reduction strategies. • Research & Innovation: Stay informed about emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in net zero and sustainability. Key Responsibilities •

About You • 1–3 years of experience in environmental management or sustainability. • Knowledge of UK energy and carbon regulations (e.g., ESOS, MEES regulations). • Understanding of GHG Protocol and scope 3 emissions reporting. • Strong analytical and organisational skills. • Degree in Environmental Science, Energy Management, Engineering or related field (preferred). • Working towards or holding a professional membership is a plus. • A customer orientated, and growth mindset. • Applicants must hold a full UK driving licence. Key Skills and Experience: • Demonstrated understanding of sustainability principles and net zero frameworks. • Experience conducting carbon footprint assessments and developing decarbonisation plans. • Familiarity with UK policies and compliance schemes related to energy and carbon reduction (e.g., MEES, ESOS, EPC, DEC). • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret energy and carbon data. • Excellent communication and report-writing skills. • Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Desirable Skills and Qualifications: • Professional membership or working toward accreditation with IEMA, CIBSE, or similar organisations. • Experience in building performance optimisation or renewable energy systems. • Proficiency in IESVE, or other, energy modelling and sustainability software. • Previous experience in a consultancy or client-facing roles.

Location: Hybrid, LCMB offices 2 days a week, home

and client sites. Flexible working is encouraged, and the role will involve travel for team meetings, team events and key client activities.

Salary: £30,000-£40,000
