Wales met a little girl in front of the pal ace, crying. On asking what was the matter, she said she wanted to see the Queen. The Prince kindly took her by the hand and led her past the guards into the presence of the Queen . . . . If any really desire to see God, Jesus will lead them into His presence.— A. C. Dixon. To the Lord bring all your burden, Put the promise to the test; Hear Him say, your Burden-Bearer, “Come unto me, and rest!” -— El. Nathan. —o—' May 6— “Behold, I am for you . . . . and ye shall he tilled and sown” (Ezek. 36:9). God does not use His plough and har row without intention. When He ploughs, He intends to sow. Be assured of three important facts. First, His ploughing is a proof that He is for and not against you. Let us never forget that the hus bandman is never so near the land as when he is ploughing it . . . Second, His ploughing is proof that He thinks of you as of value and as worth chastening, for He does not waste His ploughing on the barren sand. Third, He will not plough continually, but only for a time and for a definite purpose. Soon, yes soon, we shall, through these painful processes and by His gentle showers of grace, become His fruitful land.— Robert Lee. ■ — o — May 7— “Thy will be done" (Matt. 6: 10 ). Be this my opening prayer, O Father— the prayer for Thee. Let me put Thy wants first, foremost.. Ere I remember my daily bread, let me remember Thy divine beauty.' Ere I ask for my pardon, let me pray for Thy prosperity. Ere I beseech Thee for my guidance, let me wish Thee to be glorified . . . I have heard men say, “God is sufficient unto Himself.” Nay, my Father—for Thy name is Love. Love cannot be sufficient unto itself; the larger’it is, the less, self-sufficing it must be. Teach me the sorrows of an infinite love in a loveless world. Help me to un derstand Thy cry for communion. . . . Often have I said, “Thy kingdom come” for my own sake; let me say it for Thine.: Thy heart is not at rest when other hearts are hardened. In my prayers, O God, let me remember Thee.—George Matheson. — o — May 8— “For it is God which worketh in you” (Phil. 2:13). Work is always tending to humility. Work touches the keys of endless activity, opens the infinite, and stands awestruck before the immensity of what there is to do; Work brings a man into the good realm of facts. Work opens the meas ureless fields of knowledge and skill that reach far out of our sight. And all of this, which the ordinary occupations of life do for our ordinary powers, Chris tianity, with the work that it furnishes for our affections and our hopes, does for the higher part of us.—Phillips Brooks. Oh, blessed work for Jesus! Oh, rest at Jesus’ feet! There toil seems pleasure; My wants are treasure;

And pain for Him is sweet. Lord, if I may, I’ll serve another day.

— o — May 9— “No one shall snatch them out of my hand” (John 10:28, R.V.). I have need of an affirmation so posi tive, for how many hostile forces there are which would ensnare and wound and slay! . . . The stranger tries to entice the sheep from the true Shepherd’s side. In the society through which I move, I think the stranger’s name is Worldliness. He allures me with the glitter of silver and gold. He invites me to pleasures and joys which weaken my attachment for my Lord. He persuades me to prefer other possessions and prizes before Him who should be my First and my Last. And as
