A new Oklahoma law aims to provide clearer guidance and added support for families experiencing the loss of a pregnancy. Oklahoma Enacts NEW LAW to Support Families After Pregnancy Loss
Governor Kevin Stitt has signed Senate Bill 1436, a measure designed to help parents navigate the often confusing administrative steps following a stillbirth or miscarriage. The legislation was authored by Senator Nikki Nice (D-Oklahoma City) and Representative Cynthia Roe (R-Lindsay) and received unanimous approval in both chambers. Under the new law, hospitals will be required to provide families with a standardized form outlining how to request a death certificate following pregnancy loss. The Oklahoma State Department of Health will also develop the form and ensure it includes clear contact information for the state’s Division of Vital Records. Supporters of the legislation say it is intended to reduce confusion during an already difficult time by offering families more straightforward access to essential information and resources. The law is set to take effect November 1. The measure is part of ongoing statewide efforts to improve access to compassionate care and administrative clarity for grieving families.
