Repeat this procedure while standing or sitting – this is probably best done in the bath or shower. If you detect any lumps you should consult your doctor without delay. Treatment There are different treatment options, depending on various factors: • The stage of the tumour • The type of tumour • The patient’s age, health and preferences • The patient’s menopausal status Doctors will generally recommend surgery to remove the tumour, especially in early stages of the disease. If the tumour is still small, the surgeon will excise it, together with a small area of healthy tissue around it, so that it cannot spread further. This is called a lumpectomy.
