Watch your thought life

What starts in your mind eventually comes out of your mouth and results in activity. You become what you think. Do not allow yourself to think negatively. Do not let negative and pessimistic words and fears come out of your mouth! You will hear them and start to believe them! Replace those fears with positive statements. For instance, don’t say, “Oh I am never going to understand maths! I know I’m going to fail.” You are programming yourself for failure.

Change what you say. Start declaring that you understand maths, that you enjoy it, that you are confident of being able to master it. Such statements will help you change your attitude and approach and you will find that what before seemed scary and impossible will no longer seem like that. Parents should also be careful what they say. Keep positive words of encouragement in the atmosphere. Refrain from saying things like, “You are never going

to make it if you don’t study more”; or, “You’ll never amount to anything.” Inspire your child with motivating words and goals and if he or she starts speaking negatively, counter the fears with love and support. Don’t worry about the exam you have just written. Getting anxious and stressed about it will affect your approach to the exams that lie ahead and in any way, will change nothing about what has already been done!
