TOP CONFERENCE 2023

TELECOMMUNICATIONS, OPTICS & PHOTONICS CONFERENCE

13-14 February 2022, London, UK

The TOP Conference for the optical communications industry, now in its second year, is taking place from 13-14 February 2023 in London, UK. Developed in conjunction with Optical Connections, the conference will provide excellent networking opportunities for optical and photonic component and systems manufacturers and developers, along with fibre infrastructure and data centre providers. It will focus on the development and application of optics and photonics in telecommunications and data centres, along with presentations on photonic components, photonics for RAN, free-space optics and quantum communications.

TOPICS Telecommunications topics will include PON made simple: fibre monitoring in the access network. One consequence of the PON network expansion is that more and more fibres are being deployed in the access network. It will also be looking at maximising data throughput on subsea fibre optic cables. The Data Centre presentations and discussions will cover photonic networks with nanoseconds switching and control for distributed machine learning systems. This track will also look at Enabling technologies for 800Gbps and 1.6Tbps optical interconnects for future data centers. Photonic Components will assess the challenges and solutions for primary amplifier technology based on Erbium Doped Fibre. Free Space Optics will examine photonic lantern-based high- capacity MIMO free-space optical communications. By developing a highly-flexible digital signal processing (DSP) architecture, it is possible to successfully demonstrate record- high-performance mode-division multiplexing (MDM) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) coherent free- space optical (FSO) communication systems.

respect to peak data rates, data density, security and energy efficiency in the context of wireless networks that will support user mobility and can deal with non-line-of sight (NLOS) situations. It will also discuss results from different research projects that integrated OWC in 5G RAN and project forward into 6G. Quantum Communications provides a secure method to distribute encryption keys. The technology has matured considerably; early-stage systems are available commercially, and several regional quantum communication networks have been established. However, the solution to reach global coverage is to inter-connect regional networks via satellite quantum links. The conference will also feature a panel session with Wyn Meredith from Compound Semiconductor Centre, Tim Koene from EFFECT Photonics, John Lincoln from Photonics Leadership Group, and Carol Monaghan MP , chair of APPG Photonics. Delegates can expect to hear from leading minds from companies including ADVA, Coherent, Huawei, Infinera, Edinburgh University, Aston University and Heriot-Watt University. Speakers at the conference will include Marc Stephens , Systems Engineering Director, Infinera; Sander Jansen , General Manager, ADVA Infrastructure Monitoring BU; Dr Nicola Calabretta , Eindhoven University of Technology;
