A fitness program of heavy volume combined with cardio and weight training at an early stage can mentally defeat or cause injury to a beginner.” Instead he recommends 10 to 15 minutes of low-level cardiovascular exercise followed by 20-30 minutes of total body light weight training, which he says “would be an efficient preliminary workout.” MacPhee is passionate about fitness, and believes that exercise is an integral part of our life’s routine, especially as we get older. “Physical fitness becomes even more important as we grow older primarily due to our lack of movement that comes with everyday life. Going for a walk, participating in moderate level sports or doing cardio exercise is important for heart and lung health while weight training helps prevent osteoarthritis and maintains vital lean muscle mass.” It’s this passion that fuels his and his staff’s love for what they do. “Meeting all kinds of new people on a weekly basis and helping those people achieve their particular goals makes walking in the front door of Atlantic Fitness everyday a motivating joy.”
