A Limited Edition of 175 Sets

The colour plates have been reproduced in their original size from watercolour drawings presented by the artists to H.R.H. The Prince of Wales. The Prince has generously allowed access to a selection of the drawings for this work. Each plate has been blind embossed to record the copyright of A.G. Carrick Ltd for The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Foundation with the plate and edition numbers added in pencil.

The botanical information has been compiled by Professor Christopher Humphries FLS and Dr Frederick J. Rumsey at the Natural History Museum, London.

The book has been printed by stochastic lithography at St Ives Westerham Press, Edenbridge, Kent under the supervision of John Parfitt. The 245 gsm ‘American Cotton’ paper for the colour plates has been made in the United States at the Monadnock Paper Mills, Bennington, New Hampshire; the 175 gsm ‘Somerset Bookwove’ text paper has been made in England at the St Cuthbert’s Mill, Wells, Somerset. Both papers are of archival quality and made from acid-free 100% cotton. The binding has been executed by Stephen Conway, Halifax, West Yorkshire, under the overall supervision and to the design of James Brockman, Oxford, who has also been responsible for the hand-tooling and finishing. The ‘Chieftain’ goatskin leathers have been specially dyed and prepared by J. Hewit & Sons Ltd, Edinburgh. The marbled papers used for the boards have been made by Victoria Hall, Norwich.

The decorative drawings for the text and endpapers, and the binding tool designs, are by Richard Shirley Smith, Marlborough, Wiltshire. The book design is by Iain Bain, Newnham, Hertfordshire using ‘Fairbank’ and ‘Bembo Book’ types designed by Robin Nicholas of Monotype Imaging Ltd, Redhill, Surrey.
