Effective adsorption and photodegradation of ciprofloxacin by a porous CTF-TiO ₂ /rGO ternary nanocomposites Omoyemen Oyegbeda, Brenda Moodley School of Chemistry and Physics, University of Kwazulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa In this study, a ternary nanocomposite was synthesise by wet impregnation method as an effective adsorbent and photocatalyst for removal of ciprofloxacin CIP from aqueous solution. Characterisation using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), powder X-ray diffraction (P-XRD), UV diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) revealed enhanced properties of the prepared composites compared to binary CTF-TiO 2 . The effect of pH, dosage, contact time, were investigated to determine factors influencing sorption of CIP from solution. Moreover, the composites exhibited superior adsorption and photocatalytic activity in effectively adsorbing and degrading CIP. Adsorption equilibrium was attained within 20 min of contact time. Finally, Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry results reveals the successful degradation of CIP and formation of degradation product.
