Protection Team News GRATEFUL AFTER THE HURRICANES EVERYTHING WE’RE GRATEFUL FOR IN 2024

VOL 15, ISSUE 24

Stay #FloridaStrong Page 1

As power is restored in most areas and we settle back into our routines after the devastation caused by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, it’s a good time to reflect on our blessings, especially with Thanksgiving approaching as I write this. I know many of you have faced significant damage, but I encourage everyone to focus on the positive. The loss of life, while tragic, could have been so much worse, especially in Florida’s barrier islands. This season, I’m reminded that while we can replace cars, homes, and belongings, lives are irreplaceable, and that’s where our true fortune lies.

The rebuilding process will take years if not decades, but Floridians have shown resilience time and again, proving that we are #FloridaStrong. We will come back better and stronger, as we have before. My team and I may not be licensed contractors, builders, or roofers, but we are dedicated to supporting you in ways that make a difference. Since the storms, we’ve been focused on helping clients navigate claims, assess coverage, and understand the next steps for their policies. We are committed to being more than just an insurance agency; we’re here to guide you through difficult times and stand by you as you recover and rebuild. While we strive to learn and improve with each storm, we know there is always more we can do. If you have suggestions or feedback — whether it’s praise, criticism, or ideas on how we could enhance our services, I’d love to hear it. Please reach out to me at DVermost@vermost. com or call 727-748-2886. Your insights help us serve you better and prepare for whatever lies ahead. Looking back on this year, I am thankful for my loving family, who support me through thick and thin; my amazing team members, who make me look smarter every day; friends, who keep me grounded and push me to be my best; and, of course, you, our loyal clients, who entrust us to protect what matters most to you. I’m also grateful for our insurance partners who’ve worked tirelessly to do what’s right for our clients in the toughest of situations. Thank you, each and every one of you! This Thanksgiving, I hope you, too, find a moment to reflect on what you’re thankful for and enjoy a holiday filled with peace, gratitude, and hope for the future.

COLLECTOR CAR VS. DAILY DRIVER WHY SPECIALIZED INSURANCE MATTERS If you own a collector car and a daily driver, you’ve probably noticed major differences between their insurance policies. While traditional auto insurance covers many vehicles, classic car insurance (sometimes called collector car insurance) can save you money. The reason is simple: Big-name insurance companies may not fully understand how to insure your prized collector car properly. What qualifies as a collector or antique car? • 15-20 years old (or older) • Considered rare or highly desirable • Often includes sports cars, muscle cars, or exotic vehicles While your daily driver is the vehicle you rely on for everyday errands, commuting, and getting through rainy days, your collector car only comes out for special occasions, often in nice weather. Because these special vehicles are driven far less frequently than regular cars, the cost to insure them tends to be lower.

Sleep Stealers Avoid These Foods for Better Sleep For the estimated 1 in 3 Americans who struggle with insomnia, avoiding sleepless nights is a top priority. Most people know to ease into relaxing activities and avoid blue light from digital devices for at least an hour before bedtime. However, avoiding certain foods that can keep you awake is just as important. Here are four of the worst culprits. RHYTHM WRECKERS Cheese lovers, beware! Tyramine, an amino acid found in fermented and aged foods, including cheese, tends to trigger the release of norepinephrine, a neurotransmitter that can raise blood pressure. Alcohol also is believed to interfere with circadian rhythms by disrupting the body’s sensitivity to natural sleep cues, such as waning light in the evening. ACID IGNITERS For the estimated 1 in 5 Americans who suffer from acid reflux, the food and drink consumed before bedtime are pivotal to sleep quality. Foods that trigger this gastrointestinal disorder include spicy items and high-fat dairy products like ice cream. Sadly, popular party fare, which includes cheese, tomato sauce, alcohol, and carbonated drinks, also can trigger heartburn. TUMMY TROUBLEMAKERS As enjoyable as carbonated beverages may be, they can cause gas, bloating, and general stomach discomfort, preventing you from settling into sleep. Other potential triggers of stomach problems include citrus fruits, which have a high acid content that can fuel stomach acid. Citrus also acts as a natural diuretic, prompting you to awaken in need of a bathroom at night. HIDDEN CAFFEINE Avoiding the caffeine in coffee, energy drinks, and soft drinks is a no-brainer, but certain teas can disrupt sleep, too. While even the highest-caffeine teas, including yerba mate and black tea, have less than half as much caffeine as a standard cup of coffee, all true teas — so defined because they are made from the Camellia sinensis plant — still have enough caffeine to disturb sleep. Only herbal teas like chamomile, peppermint, and hibiscus brews are caffeine-free. And chamomile, in particular, contains the added benefit of a plant-based compound called apigenin, which calms the brain.

Collector car insurance provides coverage tailored to these unique vehicles. It includes liability, collision, and comprehensive coverage, all designed with collectible cars in mind. Since collector cars often hold or even increase in value, most policies cover damages up to an agreed value — ensuring you get the proper coverage, unlike a standard auto policy that may fall short. At Vermost Insurance, we understand the needs of collector car owners and how important it is to protect these valuable, beautiful investments. If you or someone you know owns a collector car and is looking for the right insurance, call us today — we’re eager to help you find the best coverage options!

You’ve probably heard the old wisdom that if you pluck a gray hair, two will grow back, or maybe you’ve been avoiding the pool after dinner so you don’t drown. Many so-called old wives’ tales like these, passed from generation to generation, might be more fiction than fact. Get ready to learn the truth behind the tales as we debunk three age-old myths. IT’S SAFE TO SWALLOW GUM. As kids, we likely all heard that if you swallow your gum, it will stay in your stomach for seven years. Don’t stress that sticky stuff! Your stomach is powerful enough to digest gum without any issues. The only (rare) reason it could become a problem would be if you swallowed an excessive amount of gum, which could lead to a blockage in your intestines. YOU CAN SWIM AFTER SNACKING. Have you been scared to take a dip right after a meal? You don’t have to wait 30 minutes after eating before you go swimming, like the old myth says. When you are digesting food, your body has to use more blood to aid in the process, but it’s not enough to cause debilitating cramps that could lead to drowning. At most, you might get a minor cramp you hardly notice. PULLING A GRAY HAIR WON’T MAKE 2 APPEAR. Plucking gray hair won’t make you grow more silver strands. Every hair on our bodies comes from a single follicle, which ultimately stops producing color as we age. The loss of pigmentation affects only one hair per follicle. So, if you pluck one, that is the only hair affected, and it will likely grow back the same gray color. What you do risk by plucking gray hairs are bald spots, so it’s best to leave those gray hairs alone. Ultimately, most of these tales are just age-old fibs that have managed to stick around for generations despite science and common sense debunking them. So, the next time someone warns you about the gum you swallowed or how you prune your hair, laugh it off and share the real story. FACT-CHECK YOUR FOLKLORE The Real Deal on Old Wives’ Tales
