Senior Design Manager Qualifications, Skills, Experience & Knowledge

1. The understanding and experience in applying the principles and processes of project management as commonly expressed by APM, Prince2 etc.;

2. An excellent knowledge of practical construction methodology in addition to a strong track record in managing technical information on projects.

3. An understanding of the application of Soft Landings principles and utilisation of Building Information Management to achieve a focus on Smart buildings.

4. Degree qualification in a relevant Design / Construction discipline and a membership of a recognised construction related professional body.

5. Able to establish project needs, including resources and deliverables, and to use these to develop a project delivery strategy and plan workloads for others. Experience of establishing and successfully applying key performance indicators to monitor and measure performance; Service Delivery 6. Experience of the organisation, delivery and coordination of high quality complex projects, actively seeking and acting on feedback from internal and external stakeholders in order to ensure the continuous improvement and enhancement of our estate. Teamwork 7. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required, coupled with an ability to form effective relationships with key stakeholders and delivery team members under time pressure. 8. Able to negotiate; to find common ground with others and move projects forward obtaining an outcome which is in the interest of the Institution, the end-users and acceptable to all parties, where possible;

Creativity and Innovation 9. A proven ability to proactively identify new opportunities and implement new ways of working/creative solutions to complex problems using effective management information to underpin analysis and inform decision making.

Whilst these performance attributes may relate to this role more specifically for recruitment and selection purposes, following appointment, all members of staff are expected to demonstrate effective performance across all six of our University’s performance attributes.
