believer who rightly apprehends the mean ing of this memorial feast. (See Isa. 1:18; 43:25 ; 44:22 ; 53:45; Matt. 1:21; Acts 13 1 38, 39; Rom. 5:6-8; Heb. 1:1-3). The second is, eternal life. The Life died that we dead sinners might have the life eternal communicated to us (John 3: 14-18; 3 :36; 5 :24 i f 6 :37-40; 10:28-30; 1 John 5:1; 5:4, 9-13). The third is, that it tells out the guid ing and keeping power of Jesus: Like the cloudy pillar by day, and pillar of fire by night, that guided and protected Israel, so is Jesus our Leader, by the Spirit (John 16:13-15; Jude 24; Rom. 5:8-11). ; The fourth is, that it speaks of separa tion. The blood separated Israel from Egypt. They were shut in to God, and the Egyptian world shut out; the blood was the line of demarcation. The unsaved have no right to the Lord’s Table (see Acts 5: 13, 14; 2 Cor. 6:14-18).
The fifth is, that it expresses the oneness or unity of the Body of Christ. Christ the Head, and we the members of His Body (see 1 Cor. 12:12-31; Eph. 4:1-16; 5:15-32; “ One Bread—one loaf,” 1 Cor. 10:16, 17). The sixth is, that it shows forth our pil grim character and calling. The table of the Old Testament was set in a wilderness; so is this, if it be truly the “Lord’s Table” (see Exodus 12:8-11; Col. 3:1-11). The seventh is, that it speaks eloquently of our Returning Lord. “As oft as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till H e come ." S o that the Great Supper instituted by our Lord is a constant memorial of the fact that all our sins have been put away out of God’s sight, and that Jesus is coming again to take His own to Himself in order that they may share in His eternal glory. “ T ill He Com e” By E. H. BICKERSTETH T ILL He come:” oh let the words Linger on the trembling chords; Let the little while between In their golden light be seen; Let us think how heaven and home Lie beyond that—“Till He come.” When the weary ones we love Enter on their rest above, Seems the earth so poor and vast, All our life joy overcast? Hush, be every murmur dumb; It is only—“Till He come.” See, the feast of love is spread, Drink the wine, and break the bread; Sweet memorials,—till the Lord Call us round the heavenly board; Some from earth, from glory some, Severed only—“ Till He come.”
