SpotlightOctober2018

Entrepreneurs create, that’s what we do. You created your company because you are good at what you do. You believed in yourself enough to start your own business (or to buy a business) and you took the jump. Business is about relationships. Your customers buy from you because they like and respect you, and you are helping them solve a problem.

THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART! EVERYTHING ELSE CAN BE LEARNED.

If you have a business and people buy from you, then you ARE a business person. Just because you don’t carry a briefcase and have a business degree doesn’t make you any less so. Can you imagine regularly purchasing services from someone you don’t like, with the reason ‘oh well they are good at business’? No lasting business relationship has ever come from this. The key to success in business is knowing what you don’t know. If you’re not good with numbers, find someone that can teach you what you need to know, or hire a company to help you with that part of the business. If you lack confi- dence in your marketing skills, work with someone that can get you visibility with current and potential customers. You are not expected to know everything, but the best “Business People” take the time to understand all of the elements of their business. If you do that, are passionate about what you do, and obsessed with providing value to your customers, then you’ve mastered the art of being an entrepreneur. Congrats.

By Denise Alison T his is going to be a short article packed with a very powerful message, and it goes out to all the small business owners out there that deep down feel as if they’re not a real “business person.” I know it sounds crazy, but we hear this all the time from entrepreneurs, that they do not feel like real “Business People.” Yes, they have a business, but somehow feel like they are missing some vital knowledge that is only taught in business school and is much too hard for them to learn. I’ll let you in on a secret: the world is full of business school graduates who will never own a business. That’s because you’ve been able to do the one thing they don’t know how to do. Create!
