LEXUS FIRST TO MARKET WITH SIDE CAMERAS NOT MIRRORS When the new 2019 Lexus ES came out this month in Japan, it was the first production car to have optional digital side cameras technology in place of mirrors. The new 2019 Lexus ES uses a camera system where you would normally find conventional side view mirrors. Two five-inch screens mounted in either corner of the vehicle’s dashboard replaced mirrors and displays what the cameras are seeing to the driver. The narrow profile of the side-view cameras ensures the view out of the side of the vehicle is unobstructed and helps increase aerodynamics and reduces wind noise over con- ventional mirrors. The Lexus ES cameras are also specially designed to wick away rain and snow, ensuring the image stays clear even in the most inclement weather.

This is a sign of what is to come in the automotive industry and it appears that Lexus is leading the pack.

MICROSOFT GETS SERIOUS ABOUT HARDWARE WITH NEW LAPTOP If you like the MacBook, you should take a look at the Surface Laptop 2. It’s thin and light, just like you expect from a MacBook. This is an Apple-level device with Windows 10, and even beats Apple with some new features, one being that it has a touch-screen display. Adding the convenience of being able to reach out and tap an icon or switch an app through the touch screen. You can also buy a stylus and use the screen for marking up documents or fine-tuning a Photoshop image. Another exciting new feature is called Windows Hello. When paired with the camera on the Surface Laptop 2, it can recog- nize your face and unlock the computer in a split second when you open the lid. Apple hasn’t added Face ID to its laptops yet, but more than likely it will happen when the next generation comes up, but with the Surface Laptop 2 you have it now.

Unlike Apple, Microsoft still includes a more traditional USB port for keyboards, mice and other peripherals, instead of following Apple and forcing users to USB-C.

Like Apple’s MacBook Pros, the Surface Laptop 2 runs on Intel’s latest eighth-generation chips. They’re more powerful than the prior generation.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 should be a top consideration if you are in the market for a new laptop, especially if you are looking for one that runs Windows.
