Meet the Western Growers Leadership Program Class VIII James Larsen GM, Owyhee Produce
James Larsen is the Crop Manager at Owyhee Produce/Froerer Farms, overseeing watermelon and sweet corn production, and serves as the Operations Manager for packing and shipping. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration, a master’s in organizational leadership and a graduate certificate in Human Resources. A former U.S. Navy air traffic control specialist, James returned with his family to his hometown, Nyssa, Oregon, embracing life in the agriculturally rich Treasure Valley. Passionate about the outdoors, he enjoys sharing his love for hunting, fishing and adventure with his daughters. Farming, once thought to be in his past, remains a true passion, as James thrives on the hands-on challenges of the land, driven by a desire to make things happen and see growth in crops and life.
The best part of leaving is coming home.
We took a family road trip after harvest to delay the cabin fever before winter sets in. Multnomah falls was one of rest stops there and back because the kids enjoyed running around and playing there so much. As it turned out, that was their favorite/ most memorable part of the trip. Just a reminder from my kids that it's not always about the destination.
Family tractor rides are getting a little tight lately.
Quinn (5yrs) : "Hey Dad! Can we ride horses today?" Dad: "Sure, that sounds like fun. Hey, Hazel, do you want to go for a horsey ride with us?" Hazel (3yrs): "Yeah! Shoulders?!" Dad: "No, Hazie like you ride one of the horses with Quinn." Hazel: (suspicious look and furrowed brow)
These girls have super hearing, as soon as our four-wheeler starts up, they come running. Doesn't matter where we're going or what we're doing, they want to tag along. So, we put a lot of miles on this summer, it was a good one.
FISH ON! My nephew Callum and I caught these beauties back-to-back out of the Siletz River this fall. Glad to have had the opportunity to save these Coho from a long swim up river.
"No, I'm good. Shoulders." Quinn: (Audible laughter) "Dad, she thinks you're her horse!" Dad: "Well, there's worse things. Let's go."
