Wedding Cakes

O h, those wonderful wedding cakes! Sumptuous, delicious, and ornately decorated, the cake is the center of atten- tion at every wedding. Paige Elowsky of BELLA E DOLCE says, "Today's bride is more involved than ever in designing her wedding cake. Using each wedding couple's ideas, we work with them to design a cake that is as individual as they are. Fulfilling their vision, whether it is traditional, formal, or whimsical, provides a personal and unique focal point for the couple's reception." Wedding cake styles today range from the traditional to the contemporary, adorned with colorful flowers or fondant decorations. People definitely want their cake to look awesome, but are also concerned with how it tastes. It can be both beautiful and taste amazing. As you search for the ultimate cake design, expect to see cre- ations you never imagined. Think of a luscious devil's food cake filled with chocolate mousse and glazed with shiny dark choc- olate. Or it could be designed and shaped like a stack of boxes wrapped in white chocolate ribbons. Designs are only limited by your imagination. Not to be overlooked is the cake topper. The plastic bride and groom topper has been replaced by whimsical, elegant, or per- sonalized tops like porcelain figures or flowers to match the flow- ers used in your bouquets.

Remember, don't try to bring your cake from home. A local Mackinac baker will work with you to create your perfect cake and best of all, deliver and set it up at the reception.

Dear Paige, What can we say but WOW. The cake and the dessert table were beautiful. The ability to design and make a cake to what our daughter had pictured was incredible. All the small desserts each more delicious than the next. Our guests were in awe over the cake and the desserts. Special thank you for helping our daughter to have the wedding of her dreams. HIRING A WEDDING COORDINATOR IS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST GIFT YOU CAN GIVE YOURSELF

Professional wedding coordinator Jazell Raycraft of FOR THE LOVE OF MACKINAC! says, "I like to talk with the couple about the entire wedding day to get a feel about them before I make any vendor referrals. That way I am able to tailor vendors to suit their needs, pref- erences, and budget." With a coordina- tor involved, the couple can relax and simply be guests at their own wedding. "On the day of the wedding I make sure that everyone is in the correct place and everything is where it needs to be. I am in constant contact with all your vendors. That way the couple and her families won't have to deal with any last minute issues," explains Jazell. Just Married Lauren and Charles Merritt - July 26, 2025

“Charles and I got engaged in Paris in 2024, and planned our entire wedding in just 7 months. We held a memorable meet and greet party the night before our wedding at Grand Hotel and chose Stonecliffe for our reception because it’s more secluded and you can’t beat that view. Of the 100+ guests who attended, half were from Michigan where I am from, and the other half traveled from North Carolina where Charles is from. Other guests came all the way from California and Colorado. Our guests all commented that the entire weekend was just an in- credible experience, unlike any wedding they’d ever been to before. Many guests from the south had never heard of Mackinac Island, and were quite impressed. We used local vendors who were very experienced and a pleasure to work with. We were blessed with perfect weather on our big day and had cocktails on the lawn, followed by dinner in the beautiful Sunset Pavillion and dancing into the night!”
